History[]
Origin[]
In the beginning the X-Men weren't even known by that name or independent. Instead they were part of a top secret department of the CIA known as Division X. Which came about in response to the radical Mutant Sebastian Shaw and his followers, who called themselves the Hellfire Club. Whose ultimate goal was too initiate a race war between humans and mutants, then lead the latter to victory. To prevent this then CIA agent Moira MacTaggert sought the aide of brilliant scientist Charles Xavier due to his theories on Mutants. Having no idea how was a Mutant as well. But one who ended up being disgusted by Shaw and his compatriots way of thinking. So he agreed to join Moira and the CIA's cause, brining along his foster sister Raven. After which too fully oppose Shaw and his club they recruited other Mutants to their side to aide them which included the brilliant young scientist Hank McCoy, the native American Apache John Proudstar, the Irish-descendant screamer Sean Cassidy, feline female Maria Callasantos, and finally the man who would become Charles' best friend and in turn his greatest adversary Max Eisenhardt. Though at this time people only knew him as Erik Magnus Lehnsherr.
Working together the Mutant defeated the Hellfire Club and Shaw. But in the aftermath Max started displaying ideology similar to that of Shaw's. Leading Charles to try and calm him down, only to end up with a bullet in the spine and paralyzed from the waist down after he did. This leading to the end of the Division X Mutant team.
Birth of The X-Men[]
Once the Division X Mutant team disbanded Charles, supported by Hank who had left the CIA to follow him, opened up a school geared towards helping young control and understand their powers. As well as themselves. Since during the events with the Hellfire Club he found he liked teaching the young mutants on his team. He had also resolved himself to create a world where mutants and ordinary humans could co-exist peacefully. However Charles' school and ultimate goal hit a bid speed bump once the full onset of the Vietnam War took place, and many of his schools male students were drafted to fight, losing their lives in the process. This forced a shutdown of the school, and for Charles to fall into a deep state of depression and self-loathing. So much so he even had Hank invent a drug that completely blocked his telepathic powers, which he eventually became addicted to. He then stayed in ths state until the end of the war in 1975, when his and Hank's old friend and teammate arrived at the school with a fellow Native American mutant named Daniel Lone Eagle, who needed help not only with his mutant powers but also coming to terms with the actions he'd taken during the war. Faced with this, and some tough love from both Hank and John, Charles slowly recovered and soon was back to the man he once was. He then re-opened his school in the early 1990's and immediately following this recruited a new first class which consisted of Scott Summers, Warren Worthington III, Jean Grey, Katherine Pryde, and finally the son of his foster sister Raven, Kurt Wagner. But shortly after he did at the dawn of the 21st century, in the summer of the year 2000, his former teammate Max returned. Now leading a Mutant supremacist group known as the Brotherhood of Mutants. Who were after a young mutant named Rogue, because they wanted to use her power to induce mutations in regular people. A thing Charles could not allow. As such he formed his own team to oppose Max and his brotherhood, consisting of both his old friends and his new students, which he named the X-Men.
Age of Apocalypse[]
After the X-Men were established and triumphed over Magneto and his brotherhood, gaining two new members in the form of Rogue and her friend and sudden protector James Howlett, their next great challenge came in the spring of 2003 when the ancient and powerful mutant En Sabah Nur, who long ago took the name Apocalypse, awakened from a long slumber and sought out a new body to possess. Which was Charles. But before he did he recruited warriors, which he called Horseman, to fight for him. Which consisted of the young weather-controlling mutant Ororo Munroe, Magneto, Warren Worthington III, and the young female British mutant Elizabeth Braddock. Faced with this the X-Men and Brotherhood teamed up, the first time of many, and eventually triumphed over Apocalypse. In the aftermath of which Ororo and Elizabeth decided to join their cause. Along with the Brotherhood member Piotr Rasputin. Who had only been working for Magneto since he had been holding his family hostage.
Thus battle was also the first time Jean Grey tapped into the power of the Cosmic entity residing inside of her known as the Phoenix. Which would lead to the X-Men next adventure. This time amongst the stars.
