Early Years
Wong (born 1975) was a descendant of Kan, whom he bears a resemblance with, a Tibetan monk who lived roughly one thousand years ago and was a Masters of the Mystic Arts. In the generations preceding Wong's, the first-born males in his line have served alongside the Ancient One, then Sorcerer Supreme of the Earth dimension. The last living of the members of Wong's family to serve as a Master of the Mystic Arts was the Ancient One was Wong's own father, Hamir the Hermit.
Wong was the first-born son of Hamir, and thus his life was dedicated to the Ancient One from when he was an adolescent when Hamir presented him to the Ancient One at an early age. Subsequently, Wong was sent to the Kamar-Taj to receive training under the Masters of the Mystic Arts. During his training at the temple, Wong mastered certain Oriental martial arts and was taught in the ways of sorcery, both lectured and self-learned. Wong's relatives were allowed to visit him on occasions. In Wong's youth, Hamir brought a young couple to the monastery to visit Wong and made a marriage pact with them, betrothing Wong to their daughter Imei Cheng. Despite holding no interest in the pact nor bothering to get closer with his fiancée romantically, Wong nevertheless continued to oblige with the marriage until he reaches adulthood out of his force of habit to follow his father's wishes, something that dismayed his younger cousin and adoptive brother Ramu whom unbeknownst to Wong and his family, had fallen in love with Imei in secret when Wong couldn't reciprocate her interest in him.
Full-Fledged Sorcerer
Thankfully, Wong came out clean and after a heart-to-heart talk with Ramu and his father Hamir about his true feelings of being somewhat burdened as a first-born for having little choice in picking his passion and the path which he wants to take, both families eventually agreed to call off their arranged marriage. Euphoric and satisfied to know both his cousin and ex-fiancée happily end up together, Wong continued doing what he knew and loved the most his whole life, serving and protecting the Earthly plane as a compassionate Master of the Mystic Arts. In no time, Wong's loyalty in the Mystic Arts as well as the trust of the Ancient One would grow tremendously stronger that he would get the learn the truth of the cosmic and mystic relic that was the Eye of Agamotto: its source of power being a fragment of the Time Stone which was housed inside it.
When their former librarian was murdered by the unhinged sorcerer Kaecilius and the Zealots, Wong then became the highly protective keeper of all the ancient books as well as the guardian of the Hong Kong Sanctum when he met Doctor Stephen Strange, and assisted him in his studies. As Kaecilius attempted to use his power to bring the malevolent entity Dormammu to Earth, Wong and the other Masters used their power to eventually defeat him, at the cost of Ancient One's death. With Kaecilius' conflict over, Wong had then joined Doctor Strange in protecting the Sanctum Sanctorum, willingly guiding him in his newfound journey as the succeeding Sorcerer Supreme in the next following years, bonding a solidified friendship and comradery which in their noble collaborative encounters with other heroes such as: new recruit Clea who was the deserter niece of Dormammu, the teenage Runaways in combating his former ally Tina Minoru and Pride, Wiccan and the Young Avengers, Avengers and the larger Ultimates in dealing with global and universal threats.

Trivia
- Wong despises having him and his family line called a servant to the Ancient One and/or Doctor Strange, since he is a servant to the entirety of the Masters of the Mystic Arts in the name of wisdom, knowledge, and greater good, thus dedicating his life to Earth's defense and protection rather than be loyal to one being.
- While he has barely enough time pursuing long-lasting physical relationships due to his committed affiliation with the Masters of the Mystic Arts and his personal philosophy that "the attachment to the material is detachment from the spiritual," Wong has still shown to be attracted to men, indicating it may be one reason why he decided to call off his marriage with Imei Chang.
- Wong and most of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, has the blood type O-, making him a universal blood donor.
