History

Early Years

As a boy, Wilson Fisk never had a normal childhood because of his overweight appearance and became unpopular among other children. Fisk quickly a target for bullies because of his pathetic status. Because of this Fisk would develop a unique perspective by using others to meet his own needs. This was the very first step towards Fisk’s criminal career that followed him throughout his entire life. Fisk would find himself committing his first murder at the age twelve and strongly believed that brute strength was the only way to become successful within the criminal underworld.

Fisk was then influenced by his father, who sought employment as a mob criminal. When older, Wilson assisted his father in robbing banks and jewelry stores, culminating in one robbery where his father escaped but Wilson, hampered by his already-considerable weight, was captured by the police. In adulthood, Wilson emulated his father's goal and became a crime boss in his own right and successfully hid his criminal activities from the public, although the media picked up on reports of a "kingpin", running all crime in the city. However most just thought of it as a urban myth.

He arranged for the arrest and conviction of his father, still an aspiring but minor criminal. He maintained a strained relationship with his wife, Vanessa, who was well aware of his activities. As monumental of a task it was to take on Fisk, there were plenty of vigilantes who had taken swings at him. Few would live to tell the tale, but some had proven more ornery than others. Spider-man, has yet to make his mark on Fisk's empire, and the Punisher had done plenty of damage. But no other do-gooder in New York had invited as much animosity from Fisk as Daredevil and the two of them clashed numerous times.

Kingpin of Crime

Wilson Fisk was the CEO of Fisk Industries and also New York City biggest crime boss known under the moniker as "The Kingpin". Controlling the ins and outs of the criminal underworld, he hid in plain sight as a wealthy philanthropist. He was the head of New York corporate crime, a ruthless murderer and notorious for bribing his way out of any prosecution. He had a reputation for simply owning many parts of New York, such as the Union Allied Construction. His employees included Sandman, Hammerhead, Bullseye and The Enforcers.

His voice was first heard as the "Kingpin" when he had Hammerhead send the Enforcers to challenge Spider-Man during his fight with the Vulture. After Ox, Montana and Fancy Dan were jailed, Kingpin ordered Hammerhead to have Herman Shultz to use the equipment he stole to become Shocker. When Shocker was defeated, The Kingpin saw Spider-Man as a threat to his organization, and had Hammerhead forge an alliance between him and Norman Osborn to create super villains to destroy Spider-Man. (this resulted in the creation of Sandman, Scorpion and Rhino). After learning Kingpin's identity from Rhino, Spider-Man confronted Fisk as all the evidence pointed to him being the mysterious crime boss known as the Kingpin. When confronted by Spider-Man, Fisk outright admits that he is the "Kingpin". After easily beating down Spider-Man (partially because Spider-Man underestimated him), Kingpin offered the hero money in exchange for looking the other way in certain cases, which Spider-Man refused. Kingpin subsequently sent in the police to incriminate Spider-Man as a villain.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Abilities

  • Peak Human Strength: Fisk is composed almost entirely of muscle that has been developed to enormous size, much like a sumo wrestler, and he possesses peak human strength with only the bare minimum actually being fat. His vast bulk shields him from many forms of injury, either providing padding or causing penetration wounds to only strike him relatively superficially.
  • Hand to Hand Combat: Fisk is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant. He uses his considerable size and strength to savagely pummel his opponents. His skill in combat is sufficient enough to hold his own against the likes of Daredevil and Spider-Man. He is shown to be incredibly strong, able to easily knock out Spider-Man with just one blow to the face.
  • Criminal Genius: Fisk is a criminal genius and a highly skilled planner and organizer. He employs numerous henchmen, scientists, and even police officers, almost all of whom are fiercely loyal to him due to dedication, fear, or both.
  • Master Businessman: Kingpin has come to hire half of the underworld from New York, be it criminal organizations or individual criminals like The Big Man and The Gentleman, all to "keep the city safe from itself". He also came to found his own company called Union Allied Construction to repair the damage caused by the Skrull Invasion, but also used it to launder money.

Strength level

The Kingpin possesses the peak human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise. He can crush a man's skull with his bare hands.

Weaknesses

None known.

Paraphernalia

Equipment: None known.
Transportation: Customized Limo
Weapons: The Kingpin sometimes carries a walking stick which contains a concealed laser beam weapon that fires a short pulse of 300 watts, enough energy to vaporize a handgun. The walking stick can also be used to fire a concentrated spray of sleeping gas. The Kingpin's diamond stickpin also contains a small, highly compressed container of sleeping gas which is effective when fired directly into an opponent's face at close range. The Kingpin uses the stickpin gas as a last resort.

Notes

This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of Astonishing Spider-Man and is an adaptation of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. The original character was created by Stan Lee and John Romitta and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #50 (July, 1967).

Trivia

  • There were thoughts of making the Kingpin either Italian or black for this series to differentiate him from all of his other counterparts, but these ideas were scrapped.
