William Halting (Earth-616)

William Halting was born in New York to a rich family of bankers. After the death of his father, he inherited everything he owned. However ,he had just begun to find out about his powers, and was worried that he would be an outcast if anyone were to find out. His power took on the form of super-speed. Despite the fact that he was doing a good job of hiding his mutant abilities, they were revealed when William accidentally used them to win a race at the company picnic. He was driven out, and out of fear for his life he ran as fast and as far as he could. This caused him to run back in time to the 1960's. When he finally stopped he found himself in the presence of Magneto, who told him about the evils of humanity and how his organization could help him get his revenge. William, who was vulnerable at the time, joined.

An Acolyte

During his stay on Asteroid M, William began developing a suit, which looked like a bullet, to show how fast he was. Being a fan of video games, he named himself after an enemy in one of his favorite game series, and thus Bonzai Bill was born. However, despite becoming an Acolyte, he slowly started to realize that though humanity was weak and xenophobic, it did not deserved to be destroyed. After searching for a while, he found a small group of mutants who agreed with him and his beliefs. They told him about how they were planning to leave the Acolytes and make their own team and Bullet Bill eagerly accepted their offer of becoming one of them.

An Offbeat

Due to him being the oldest at 35 he wanted to be the leader but lost to the slightly younger Dragonfly, although he was made second in command. The team decided that to gain credibility, they would defeat the super hero team known as the Avengers. However, the attack was a failure and the team was quickly defeated. After escaping from prison, they decided that becoming super heroes would be a better career choice. Bonzai Bill has a strong rivalry with Quicksilver, who believes he is faster and stronger because he is younger. Bill often attacks him on sight, no matter what the odds are against him.

A hero no more

However, after years of fighting evil as a superhero, Bonzai Bill's mind came under heavy strain. It soon became too much for the hero and he suffered a mental breakdown. Out of fears for his safety, the Offbeats forcefully retired him and replaced him with The Ocelot. He was then handed over to Professor X in the hopes that the Mutant genius could aid Bill.
