History
I may be as pretty as an angel... but I sure as hell ain't one. Don't let the wings fool you.
- — Archangel
- — Archangel
Warren Worthington III was born to a mutantphobic father, who sent Warren away to the Xavier Institute after his mutation manifested. Warren eventually came to love himself and his mutation, becoming a proud member of the X-Men, until he was coopted and brainwashed into becoming the Horseman of Death, servant of Apocalypse. Warren served over a year as Death before having his mind restored by Jean Grey. However, he was still haunted by the memories of things he did while in service to Apocalypse.
Warren was recruited into the Outsiders under the promise that one day Apocalypse's programming would come back, and the Archangel would would usurp Apocalypse and enslave the world. Warren agrees to become an Outsider, and finds a family of misfits that accept him for his flaws and all.
However, Warren's tenure with the Outsiders would come to an end after they visited a reality where they were forced to depose the spirit of Zarathos, which had become King of Hell. Their mission was successful, leaving the Kingdom of Hell in disarray. Despite always being terrified of coming into power, Warren stepped up and took on the throne, embracing the Archangel as part of himself and restoring order to the Kingdom.

- Archangel has made several quips about how he is an angel sitting on the Throne of Hell.
- Before leaving the team, he offered his assistance and resources to the Outsiders should they ever need it. They eventually called in this favor so he and the forces of Hell could assist them in their ongoing battle with Odin.
