It happened surprisingly slow. The hit man, the gun, the bullet. I didn’t even think, I just did it. I ran in front of Mr. J just before the gun went off. Right then, that was when everything slowed down. And I’m thankful for it. Even as the bullet was spiraling toward me, all I could think of was Janice. And all I could do was hope beyond hope that she would be all right. Her image flashed in my mind even as the bullet pierced my skin. I collapsed but managed to shoot the hitman as I fell. I closed my eyes as I hit the ground. Surprisingly I didn’t feel anything and felt fine. I slowly stood up and looked around. Then, off in the distance I saw her, smiling at me. I walked up to her and grasped her hand.
