Thor Odinson was a prince, and briefly the All-Father, of Asgard, known amongst his people and older Germanic settlements as the God of Thunder.
History[]
Thor was born to the 'Earth Giant', Jörd, and the All-Father of Asgard, Odin, around 1200 years ago. His birth had been foretold by a number of visions across the preceding millennia, and many tales of his future adventures had already become bastardised myths by the time he took his first breath. He was raised in Asgard by his father, alongside his various half-brothers.
As Odin's third-born son, Thor's prospect of becoming All-Father was slim, and so for much of his early years made no effort to learn or even aspire to the position. However his eldest brother, Heimdall, came to utilise his 'All-Sight' to take watch over the Nine Realms as a sentry to ensure Asgard's safety, willingly surrendering his heirship of the throne. Some centuries later the next eldest brother, Tyr, came to the conclusion that he was unfit to be All-Father as, being the 'God of War', he believed that he could not properly rule in times of peace, and so like Heimdall before him surrendered his entitlement to instead became the leader of Asgard's army. As a result, Thor became first in the line for the throne, and began being trained by Odin to become his successor.
The Would-Be Ragnarok[]
In the mid-to-late 20th century, Thor's sibling, Loki, attempted to set in motion the prophecised Ragnarok to bring about the destruction of Asgard. Although the full prophecy was able to be halted, many Aesir died, including All-Father Odin. In his final moments, Odin transferred his power to Thor, who use it to lay waste to the attacking hordes, and then to trap Loki within the World Tree itself, where he would be able to see but not touch the other realms. The battle severely injured Thor, who realised he didn't have much time left, and feared an eternity confined to the halls of Valhalla. In his last moments, Thor used his father's power, which had once created Valhalla, to open its gates and allow anyone within a chance at a new life. Upon succumbing to his injuries, Thor stepped out of the gate of Valhalla and was reborn on Midgard as Donald Blake.
Attributes[]
Powers[]
As a god, Thor's physiology is naturally much greater than that of 'mortals'. In almost all regards he far exceeds even the peak of human fitness.
- Superhuman Strength: Thor's strength is incomparable to that of humans, being able to lift well over 100 tonnes.
- Superhuman Speed: He is able to outrun many wheeled vehicles.
- Superhuman Reflexes: His reaction times are incredibly fast, which combined with his speed allows him to very quickly prepare himself for incoming threats.
- Superhuman Stamina: Thor's body experiences very little fatigue while during physical activity, allowing him to go on for abnormally long periods of times. In past adventures, he has fought non-stop for hours, and even days, without tiring and needing rest.
- Superhuman Durability: His body is extraordinarily resistant to injury, being able to be hit by trucks and many projectile weapons with little-to-no injury at all.
- Healing Factor: On the rare occasion Thor is able to be injured, he heals at a superhuman rate, and is able to recover from broken bones in a matter of hours, and most scratches and bruises are gone within minutes.
- Weather Manipulation: Thor was born with the power to create and control storms. However, due to difficulties using this power, it was sealed into Mjolnir, which acts as a conduit for Thor to use this power safely.
Abilities[]
- Expert Combatant: Thor has centuries worth of training and practice in various forms of combat, making him one of the most experienced fighters on Earth.
Weaknesses[]
Thor struggled to control his ability to summon storms, and so Mjolnir was forged to contain the power and act as a conduit. This meant that Thor could not consciously use these abilities unless he was wielding Mjolnir. When experiencing extremely heightened emotions, he sometimes subconsciously summons incredibly volatile and destructive storms through the remnants of the power not sealed into Mjolnir.
Equipment[]
Mjolnir: A hammer forged for Thor at Odin's request. It holds Thor's power to control storms, which he struggled to control when it was within his body. Because of this, Thor sees Mjolnir as being an extension of himself. This was shown to be more true than expected when, upon Thor's death, Mjolnir travelled to Valhalla to be with him, and then when Thor left Valhalla and was reborn on Midgard, Mjolnir broke through the barrier of realms and found rest on Midgard, awaiting the day Thor's reincarnation would be worthy to lift it.
- Mjolnir is enchanted so that only thise 'worthy' can lift it. What exactly constitutes being 'worthy' is unknown, and appears to be at least someone dependent on the circumstances and intentions of the person lifting it. It is believed that to be 'worthy' of lifting the hammer, one must be aligned with Thor's core values, especially fighting for the greater good of others.
