The Marvel Movieverse is a cinematic universe based upon the Marvel Comics universe. For years, several different studios had attempted to create film adaptations off of Marvel's many characters, but it wasn't until Marvel retrieved the film rights to all of their characters and partnered with Disney to create Marvel Studios that their series first got off the ground. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had the idea to create a shared universe of films similar to the shared universe that the comic characters exist in, and with the releases of their wildly successful debut films Captain America and The Fantastic Four in 2008, the universe took off, becoming one of the most successful film franchises in history.
