Dagger

Early Years

Tandy Bowen was born around the final months of 1998 and was raised on a suburb in New Orleans, to former Roxxon scientist Nathan and wound down fashion model Melissa Bowen. When Tandy was still young, she and her family were forced to fled from their original home when her father resigned from his employers after catching their hidden crimes of developing sorts of genetic weaponry without legal authorization, driving her father for them to plan and start a new life in New York, away from the threatening domain of Roxxon. Unfortunately, on their way to move states and cities of residence, Tandy's father abruptly got involved in an accident, which unbeknownst to his family was set up by Roxxon's then head to keep their activities from being exposed to the authorities or the public. The unexpected demise of Nathan Bowen left a horrible scar to Tandy and her mother, whom the latter resorted to alcoholism and drug abuse in order to deal with her grief. To make things worse, Tandy and her mother Melissa were almost driven into desperate poverty as Roxxon seized their assets. Realizing how much of a burden she went through hopelessly by trying to support both herself and her sorrowful mother, Tandy eventually stopped living with her (although she didn't stop visiting her often to check her) as she found herself pursuing a life of crime in the streets of New York in her early adolescence, becoming a street thief as an easy and efficient way to make a living on her own while still look after her mother from time to time to see her improvement.

By autumn 2014, Tandy was at Westwood Mall during a weekend when she tried to steal from student Tyrone Johnson, then council president of Forest Hills High School, only to get caught red-handed by Tyrone's classmates and subsequently handed her over to a local juvenile detention. Tandy stayed there for a while, only for Tyrone himself to help in releasing her as soon as he could, seeing that Tandy was merely doing it to survive. Despite coming from different backgrounds, perceiving different views and lifestyles, the two eventually developed a proper friendship, along with an "unspoken thing" which they didn't pursued at the time, the following summer as they slowly and progressively opened to each other, with Tyrone helping Tandy earn money to without having to steal by finding her a stable part-time or full-time job, a gesture which she genuinely appreciated. However, on the night when Tyrone tried to convince Tandy not to steal from the influential Roxxon executive Peter Scarborough, a man who happened to be a former associate of her father, a speeding delivery truck out on the road suddenly struck onto them almost head-on, driving the two adolescents in coma.

They were put in the same hospital room, wherein the group Roxxon Brain Trust, something that was secretly a discreet and illegal collaboration between Roxxon and the science-based terrorist organization Advanced Idea Mechanics, saw the opportunity to use them as guinea pigs in their experiments to create better super-soldiers, and at the same time help them maintain their in activities the shadows after finding out Tandy was Nathan Bowen's daughter. For almost a year, Roxxon performed experiments with dark matter and energy on them by using an unstable machine which in the process, granted the two a chance to escape the facility the moment they wake up. Free from the chains of Roxxon, the experiment have given them unique set of supernatural powers which granted each of them an exclusive and personal access to an extraterrestrial dimension beyond the earthly plane, with Tandy being able to harness energy from what was called the Lightforce. With no place to stay since their escape, the two would find sanctuary at the Holy Ghost Church and meet Father Francis Delgado, who provided them with food and shelter at the church whenever they needed to. Progressively learning to master her powers, Tandy decided to use them in her quest for justice in a city that was recently shaken from the events of Ultimate War, as she and Tyrone still aims to expose the accountability of Roxxon Corporation with the "accident" the two of them were caught along with the shocking discovery that the conglomerate was also responsible for her father's death just so Roxxon could tie up any loose ends with their illicit deeds. From that moment on, both Tyrone and Tandy along with those who witness their crime-fighting in action began to call their heroic identities as Cloak and Dagger, respectively.

New Defenders

As newly-surfaced partnered vigilantes in a post-Ultimate War New York City by the fall of 2015, the duo would cross paths with just and reputable police detective Brigid O'Reilly who was initially skeptic with their presence and methods, but grew to trust and respect when Cloak and Dagger found a middle ground with her in finding and dealing with dirty cops all over the city, which O'Reilly wasn't entirely suspicious in the beginning. At the same time, when the two tried to pursue confronting Roxxon to find out what really happened to her father, they met the superpowered private investigator Jessica Jones, in which the duo were determined to help her find more clues and traces to her secret investigation on Roxxon's illegal activities, revealing to the young vigilantes that she too was a product of Roxxon's experiments which also happened when she was younger.

As their efforts of assistance were proven to be extremely fruitful and constructive, Jones was able to deliver all of her concrete evidences to the authorities which served as the Achilles' heel for Roxxon to successively face multiple charges, be investigated by the agencies, and arrested every individual in the conglomerate involved with illegal activities. Taking this opportunity, Tandy worked with Tyrone to stop the conglomerate from endangering the neighboring states of New York from the sudden discharge of Darkforce and Lightforce, something that Roxxon had unintentionally caused. In their victory, Tandy had finally achieved justice for her father's memory and reputation on his profession, with Tyrone being able to find answers in his tragic past due to their productive collaboration with O'Reilly and their few other newfound allies.

Noticing the greatest of potential in the two as fully-pledged heroes right after confronting Roxxon, Jones went to recruit the duo into the super vigilante team Defenders, which they were determined to join by the moment Civil War had ignited among the superhero community around the following year. Unfortunately, while Cloak and Dagger were heavily occupied in helping out their fellow outlawed heroes and fighting for their rights against the Superhuman Registration Act, the two met a new challenging foe from the astral plane known as the demonic entity named D'Spayre, someone whom they first encountered after her partner strangely started losing control over his teleportation ability. Due to the overwhelming and overpowering attack D'Spayre had inflicted on them during their first meetings, the heroic duo were separated as they learned more about the dimension which granted their powers, but the experience gave the two enough time to fully understand the endless possibilities which they could harness and utilize the energy residing within them and help each other even from an astronomical distance in finding a way to intervene with the entity's agendas and affairs in the earthly realm.

Dark Kingdom

Mr. Negative Vs. C&D Earth-61615

Cloak and Dagger had to rely only on each other as they face Mister Negative and stop his country-wide influence of corruption

By the mid-2020s, most of the citizens in New York were on the verge of hunger, famine, and poverty due to the wake of Mutant Ultimatum and concurrent Sentinels Uprising. As the city currently recovers, several charity groups around the world consistently did their best to help those who were extremely devastated by the following recent tragedies. One of those charity groups, was the organization F.E.A.S.T., a volunteer soup kitchen ran by the once selfless philanthropist Martin Li. However, as Li would eventually reveal himself to be the super-powered criminal known as Mister Negative, he had taken over the Chinatown gangs and forged his own criminal empire for almost five years. Having no other contending competition to challenge and overpower his unlawful empire at the time, the latter finally saw his chance to rise into power as he unleashed his now-enhanced, unstoppable, unsustainable powers, turning the whole state of the entire world upside down.

As Mister Negative have corrupted most of the entire population over the country and other parts of the world by his brainwashing properties through the Darkforce, including all of Earth's mightiest heroes and even villains, only Cloak and Dagger themselves were capable of effortlessly surviving the effects towards the very end together, but were forced to face challenge and difficulty once they've realized they only have themselves in order to stop Negative's reign and kingdom from ever worsening and restore peace into the world back into the way it was, as soon as possible. In the last moments of Negative's tyranny, Cloak and Dagger succeeded in their mission, causing for his dark kingdom to come crumbling into the ground and defeating him for good by exiling him within the reaches of the Darkforce to contemplate on his own self and actions for an extremely long time. Realizing that their opposite yet dualistic bond only strengthens them as long as they're together, Tyrone and Tandy finally got engaged amidst the ensuing chaos across the world.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Living Light Generation: As a result of her exposure to Roxxon's illegal experimentation on quantum mechanics, Dagger generates a form of 'living light' known as the Lightforce. She produces much more than normal humans do, but is usually conservative in the use of her powers. Overuse of her powers could be fatal. Dagger generates and stores this lifeforce energy automatically. If she goes for more than a week or so without using her powers she will become fevered and delirious, and eventually discharge her energy involuntarily.

Trivia

  • Tandy used to practice and perform ballet as far as when she was still in elementary, only for it to abruptly halt when she and her family had to move to New York, an event that directly led to her father's death. After dealing with Roxxon's corruption, she has since resumed her ballet lessons.
  • Tandy eventually learned of the truth that her father was emotionally abusive to her mother prior to his death, but still firmly believes that his death at the hands of Roxxon was nevertheless unjustifiable. After exposing Roxxon for their crimes, Tandy helped her mother move on from the painful past as the two of them frequently attend a support group for abused women.
