History
At some point in time the Super-Adaptoid had been sent into the Negative Zone so he would stop creating havoc on Earth. Annihilus eventually defeated and deactivated him though he kept the robot around believing he would one day have his use. The day came when two unknowns entered the Negative from Earth. Annihilus then sent the Adaptoid to the place where it came from so he could see it fight.
When he saw it fight the Avengers and X-Men and put up a decent fight before getting destroyed he used this as reason to try and conquer the positive universe, believing it to have grown weak.[1]

The Adaptoid was only capable of copying powers it had witnessed. It had limited imagination, incapable of dreaming up complex imagery. Also, its computer brain could not cope with cosmic awareness, which caused an overload.
