Steven Rogers, also known as Captain America, was a patriotic athlete in the 1940s who enlisted in the US military. He was chosen for the Super Soldier project due to his patriotism and bravery, and he became the poster-boy for US propaganda. He led the Invaders team (himself, "Dum-Dum" Dugan, James Barnes, and Jack Fury) into battle against the Nazis on countless occasions, most notably when they took down an underwater Third Reich base where Red Skull, Germany's own super soldier poster-boy, was holding US soldiers captive.
