Doctor Strange

Early Years

Stephen Vincent Strange M.D., Ph.D, (born mid-1975) was a physician-scientist who specialized in neurological surgery and his research focused on stimulation neurogenesis, which is the formation of new nerve cells. As his medical career progressed, his popularity increased to the point where he was secretly labeled by Project Insight as a potential threat to Hydra. In his young adulthood, he was already one of the top surgeons in New York City and was exclusively interviewed by WHiH World News about new life-saving techniques he had been investigating in his field.

Strange eventually became attracted to night nurse Christine Palmer, a fellow surgeon who worked alongside him in the ER department of Metro-General Hospital. The two later began a relationship; one that did not last due to Strange's arrogance and his focus more on his career instead of valuing their time together. Unfortunately for him on a fateful night which no one had expected, the usually careless and arrogant Strange had unexpectedly suffered a car accident that had resulted in his hands being crippled. When Western medicine failed to restore his hands into its original, functioning state, and was no longer able to continue as a surgeon, yet he refused to become an assistant or consultant. Instead of choosing to live a life with his now crippled hands, he squandered his money traveling the world and searching for a cure for his daunting, and possibly hopeless condition.

Strange, Mystical Doctor

Meeting the Ancient One

One day in his peril struggling to recover from his unbearable suffering, the desperate Strange finally heard a rumor of a mystical personage known as the Ancient One in Tibet, specifically located in Kamar Taj, in Kathmandu, Nepal. Marshaling the last of his inner and outer resources, Strange had diligently searched Kamar Taj until the fortress of the Ancient One was revealed to him. Strange embarked on a desperate journey that eventually led him to the Masters of the Mystic Arts as well as the discovery of magic and alternate dimensions across the multiverse, being trained by the Ancient One and Karl Mordo.

Dealing with Dormammu

Though his focus was healing his hands, Strange instead learned more about the mystic arts, becoming a powerful sorcerer as moments go by, and soon helped the Masters prevent the rogue sorcerer Kaecilius and the Zealots from merging Earth with the Dark Dimension upon the hands of the powerful entity known as Dormammu, but not before witnessing the death of the Ancient One. Strange then became the hero simply called Doctor Strange which once had always been the title referring to his role as a physician, but has now become the magical protector of the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York City as well as Earth's protector from interdimensional threats, eventually earning him the mystic title of the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth by his later allies and foes after the Ancient One fearlessly passed away during the battle against Kaecilius and the other and more powerful forces of Dormammu. Strange may have not have cured his broken hands, but through both magic and the grave dangers which his home had faced, he has found redemption and enlightenment to his soul and spirit. After all, his passion of saving lives has only ascended onto a whole new level.

The Sorcerer Supreme

However, despite the remarkable reputation he has already made after protecting Earth from Dormammu and the Dark Dimension, Doctor Strange was far from becoming the Sorcerer Supreme that he was destined to become. During his later years as a practitioner of the mystic arts starting by the mid to late 2000s, Strange was on the path into becoming a fully-pledged Sorcerer Supreme as he was accompanied by his teammate and newfound friend Wong, which in turn such journey had costed him detachment from his loved ones on Earth for a very long time. However, reality surprised him when this journey has given him the opportunity to encounter and befriend many sorcerers around the world, be it good, evil, or indescribable, outside the Mystic Arts, and having enough mystical wisdom and access in other realms thanks to his a gifted intelligent mind, Strange would end up meeting other sorcerers in the form of other beings across worlds and dimensions way beyond his own.

The most memorable one for him just happened to be the strangest but most wonderful fateful encounter with a half-Faltine, half-Mhuruuk (the closest counterpart for humans in the Dark Dimension) sorcerer named Clea, a novice mystic and much to Strange's surprise, reveals herself as the daughter of Dormammu's sister Umar. Despite this cruel reality, it never stopped the two from forming a spark of romance with each other; and when Clea found herself on Earth trying to flee from an luxurious yet imprisoned life in the Dark Dimension, Strange was the first and only sorcerer who was willing to help her break her mystical bonds with her family, especially her uncle Dormammu, despite the rest of the Master of Mystic Arts' dogmatic viewpoint against anyone who is related to Dormammu and the Dark Dimension.

Into a World of Heroes

In his as the journey in attaining the mystical rank of Sorcerer Supreme in succeeding the late Ancient One, Doctor Strange, along with his fellow Masters of the Mystic Arts, would eventually begin to work with New York vigilante, notably the brutally just Daredevil, the quippy and web-slinging Spider-Man, the demonic and vengeful Ghost Rider, and extensively, the usually outlawed heroic team simply known as the Defenders, and later, across the country during the formation of the Avengers in the late 2000s and the emergence of greater threats be it mystical, Earth-based, or extraterrestrial.

Dormammu's Return

Dormammu Earth-61615

Protectors and the Defenders of Earth against Dormammu

At some point in time a few years after Ultimate War, Dormammu was able to gain possession over Doctor Strange's body and tried to use him to commit crime and create chaos and take over the world. This plot eventually fails and Dormammu is driven out of Strange's body by the rest of the Masters of the Mystic Arts. Dormammu then retreats back to the Dark Dimension and tries to regain his might again. Dormammu, who wanted revenge, immediately ordered the Mindless Ones (one of those he sent was the transformed Kaecillius and the Zealots) to attack Earth. Mr. Fantastic had invented a device, which could've send the Mindless Ones back to their home dimension by channeling the energies of the heroes nearby. However, the device also allowed Dormammu's separated energies to be reabsorbed by Dormammu once again.

Dormammu, who was already regaining full strength, was interfered with by Strange again. With the aid of Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the Defenders, both Doctor Strange and Dormammu were both taken to an unknown realm which is beyond the effect of time. Doctor Strange takes his chances and sent him and Spider-Man back into time and stopped Dormammu from seizing power ever again and try breaking their deal. Dormammu was defeated once again, but that doesn't stop him from ever continuing on his conquest invading Earth through other means. Thankfully for Strange, the return of Clea after her mission from the deep crevices of the multiverse has further fortified Earth's defenses against her insatiable and grudgeful uncle through the use of whatever mystical knowledge that she had garnered in her journey.

Forming the Illuminati

In the wake of the aftermath of several conflicts in superhuman history, including Dormammu's recent attempted invasion, a clandestine organization of heroes was eventually formed by Iron Man, Namor, Mr. Fantastic, Professor X, Black Bolt, and Strange himself. This organization was later known as the Illuminati, whose goal was to prevent such events from happening again, including the prevention of Dormammu and any other threatening cosmic beings' arrival and/or return on the earthly realm.
