History

The fight is never over, friends! Not as long as there are those of us who are willing to fight it.
Wonder Man

Simon Williams was a struggling actor who was eventually cast in a role that was much bigger than he had initially realized.

Hammer Industries had come into possession of both Stark Tech and Asgardian Battle Armor, and they had cast Simon to play their new corporate superhero; "Wonder Man". Believing he wasn't muscular enough to be convincing as a superhero, Hammer Industries teamed up with Oscorp to also inject him with a variation of the Super-Soldier Serum, which made him super strong and gave him unbreakable skin.

Although he gained worldwide fame essentially overnight, Simon knew the Avengers would never take him seriously. He knew he was just an actor, but ever since he had been given all this power, he felt the need to use it for a good cause.

Either by some coincidence, an act of God, or perhaps the meddling of Hammer Industries, a chemical explosion resulted in the deaths of Captain America, Iron Man, and even Thor. This left the Avengers without any leaders, and Simon saw this as the perfect opportunity to prove himself.

The Avengers put it to a vote, and Wonder Man was elected the new team leader with a 3-2 majority, Wasp, She-Hulk, and Vision voting in favor, and Hawkeye and Ant-Man voting against. His first few days as the team's leader were a little rocky, but eventually Simon found himself falling into it fairly naturally.

He was eventually met with a lawsuit from Hammer Industries, however, for breach of his contract. This led to each and every one of the Avengers coming to stand up for him in court, only for an assassination attempt to be made on all of them. The entire courthouse was blown up, and as Wonder Man desperately tried to save his teammates, he found himself plucked out of reality itself by the Silver Sentry.

He, alongside Okoye, a Wakandan Dora Milaje soldier from another reality, were placed on Team X and tasked with jumping across realities and righting wrongs.

Wonder Man tried to throw himself into this new life and forget about his friends back home. But this led to him closing himself off from his emotions, and being needlessly careless on missions.

During a confrontation with a version of the Squadron Supreme, Wonder Man found himself engaged in a fierce battle with the Power Princess, Zarda, who was able to pierce his armor with her sword, which opened up for Hyperion to punch him in the face hard enough to snap his neck. While his death had no bearing on the Squadron Supreme themselves, it did provide Team X with an opening to finish their mission without interruption. His body was then later delivered to his home reality, where the surviving Avengers, She-Hulk and Vision, buried him alongside Wasp, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.
