Shang-Chi spent most of his life training to be the greatest fighter of all time. He was eventually recruited by Potts International and put through the process of Terrigenesis, emerging with the ability to control fire and lightning.
He was placed in Seattle as the official Potts Hero of the city, and enjoyed living in the limelight while still being able to fight crime. He didn't even mind occasionally doing a less than morally right favor for his bosses at Potts.

Shang-Chi often enjoys sparring with fellow Potts hero Daredevil. They've both come close to almost killing the other multiple times. They're both pretty sure that one day if they ever die, the other will be responsible.
