Scott Lang was an electrical engineer raising his daughter, Cassie, alongside his long time girlfiend, Maggie. On the day of Scott and Maggie's wedding, tragedy struck as the Squadron Supreme found themselves locked in battle against an army of robots mere blocks away. The ceremony was interrupted by the violence, and in the chaos, Scott and Maggie got separated. Saving his daughter, Scott runs around to find Maggie, only to see her moments before Blur accidentally ran into her at top speed, killing her instantly.
Horrified by what he'd seen, and wishing to protect his daughter, he quickly put her into the care of his grandmother up in Canada. Scott would then be contacted by Nick Fury, who offered him the chance to avenge his wife and protect his daughter. Not exactly sure what Fury was offering, Scott accepted, only to be thrown into a life of gore and violence.
