Samuel Sawyer was a war veteran who fought in World War II where he had gone up against foes like the Nazi Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, and afterward went on to become a general. He would eventually be made a commanding officer and coordinator over the military unit known as the Howling Commands around the Vietnam War era. Their field leader being Sgt. Jack Fury.
