History
Tony Stark once told me that to make it in this life, you need to have a heart of iron. I might've taken it literally.

Riri Williams was exceptionally intelligent from a very young age. Her mother always tried to make her feel comfortable while giving her the right outlets to express her intelligence. However, when she turned 13 she developed a potentially life threatening heart disease.
She developed her own special heart monitor that kept it beating and healthy. She became pretty well known for the invention, and even had the option to make money off of it. However, she didn't feel right doing that and instead just wanted to help people. This led to her applying for an internship at Stark Industries, which after she had a one on one interview with Tony Stark, she got. He even promoted her to be his personal lab assistant, and constantly told her how amazed he was by her intelligence, and even asked her to develop a heart monitor for him.
She eventually went on to start building her own suit of armor, which was inspired by Stark's Iron Man suits. He even helped her finalize the design, and she chose the name "Ironheart".
Tony initially discouraged her from pursuing a career in crime fighting. She instead went the other direction and started doing research to find other people her age with powers and similarities to the Avengers. After recruiting Hawkeye's niece, Kate Bishop, the two of them went on to form the Young Avengers. Ironheart even opted to let Kate lead the team and develop technology for her teammates, just like her mentor did for the Avengers.
