History

Quote1 I already lost everyone who meant anything to me. Doin' this ain't nothin' but me finally bein' reunited with my family. Quote2
-- Gambit

Remy LeBeau was raised to be a thief in Louisiana, with his father teaching him to use his powers for mischief. However, he would later be reformed after meeting a man named Charles Xavier, who taught him he could use his powers for good as a part of the X-Men. Although he was a bit skeptical at first, he learned first hand about redemption after he was able to talk the Brotherhood member, Rogue, into joining the X-Men. The two of them fell in love over time, and eloped after a mission in the Savage Lands. By some miracle, Rogue became pregnant, but the more the baby developed, the harder it became on her. During labor, her powers ended up sucking the life out of the baby, resulting in her giving birth to an already dead infant. Consumed with grief, Rogue took her own life. Gambit spiraled into a deep depression and left the X-Men, becoming an alcoholic living in his hometown in Louisiana.

He would later be recruited into the Outsiders, who offered to give him a new purpose in life. Gambit reluctantly accepted, remembering what Professor Xavier taught him about always trying to do the right thing. Gambit would go on to complete several missions with the Outsiders until one fateful mission where the reality they visited was in the process of suffering a mass breakout at the Raft. In order to lock down the prison, someone had to remain inside to contain the prisoners. Gambit ended up being the one to pull the trigger, sacrificing himself so that the Outsiders could complete their mission.
