Reed Richards began studying gamma radiation as a potential cure for his wife, Susan's cancer. However, his testing went awry and he was permanently mutated into a monstrous being known as the Hulk. Initially mindless and full of rage, Susan was able to coach Reed back to stability only for her to die soon after. Distraught with grief, Reed decides to use his newfound powers as a hero.

Reed was recruited into the Outsiders under the promise that if he returned to his dimension, his mutation would relapse and he would lose his mind once more, killing hundreds of people.

Reed and Quicksilver would both end up sacrificing their lives on the Outsiders' first mission to Earth-1010112 to end the war between Atlantis and Latveria.

At the time of being recruited into the Outsiders, Reed was 46-years-old.
After his death, the Hulk's body was kept in stasis in the Outsider's palace located within the Outside. After the Outsiders began operating out of the palace, they returned Hulk's body to his home reality to be mourned properly and buried next to his wife.
