As a child, Proxima was abandoned by her parents and left to fend for herself on the streets, where she learned how to be tough and take care of herself. Eventually, Thanos and the Black Order came to her home world to pillage it of its resources, and Proxima was taken by Thanos.
She quickly fell in love with Thanos's way of life, as she had been given the power she so desperately longed for. She was raised and trained alongside her two adoptive sisters, Gamora and Nebula. While Gamora was Thanos's favorite, and Nebula was the one he worked on fixing the most, Proxima fell somewhere between the cracks and always felt overshadowed by them both.
Eventually, when the Black Order membership expanded and the pirates Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, and Cull Obsidian were recruited, Proxima fell in love with their leader. It wasn't long until Corvus and Proxima were married.
Together, they helped lead the charge against the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers during the hunt for the Infinity Stones. Proxima was devastated when her husband was killed on Xandar by her own sister, Gamora. Things would get even worse for her when Nebula abandoned the Black Order. Proxima and Cull Obsidian were the only two who remained. Out of anger and betrayal, Thanos reprimanded Proxima, having lost his trust in his children, and killed her to avoid the prospect of her ever betraying him.

Trivia
- After becoming a fully fledged member of the Black Order, Proxima returned to her home planet of Devilancia and eradicated the entire species so that she would be the last. With her death, the Devilancians have officially gone extinct.
