History
When the universe began, the first entities that came into existence were the Proemial Gods.
While Master Order and Eternity created the Celestials to accelerate life's development, the Proemial Gods seeded life and divinity across the universe.
After completing their task, the Proemial Gods were horrified to realize they now had no purpose. Desperate to have a purpose, the Proemial Gods "reinvented" themselves as Those-Who-Sit-Above-In-Shadow: the Gods that even Gods revere.

Powers
- Vast Divine Power: Each of the Proemial Gods are powerful enough to overcome Celestials by themselves, and are revered, if not worshiped, by other gods. Uniquely among all entities, Those-Who-Sit-Above-In-Shadow can contend with Galactus without requiring another powerful specie to assist them.
- Immortality: The Proemial Gods have been alive since the beginning of the universe.

- Vast Intellect: Over billions of years the Proemial gods have attained gathered a great deal of information and wisdom, allowing them to manipulate and deceive almost anyone in existence.
