History

I've spent my life speaking the word of a God I do not believe in... swinging the swords of men I despise. At times I wonder if my only purpose is to be a contradiction to myself.
The Priest

After the near extinction of the mutant race, including both the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants, Weapon X became the sole distribution point of mutant kind. The organization had been taken over by Mister Sinister, who began breeding new mutant children with DNA he had amassed over the years.

However, he quickly discovered that he did not have what it takes to raise these new mutant children. So he took to his specialty; creating life from scratch. He used the cloned body of the former X-Man Nightcrawler, and merged his DNA with genomes from samples including Psylocke, Sabretooth, Siryn, and Beast. The final result was a swift killing machine who Mister Sinister had dubbed "The Priest".

While his main assignments for Weapon X included primarily hit and runs and assasinations, whenever he would return home he found himself burdened with the task of teaching morality (or at least, Sinister's twisted version of it), to the children. The Priest had no way of knowing that he was being lied to and manipulated, until he realized that he could use his limited telepathy to pierce through the minds of Sinister's minions.

Enraged by the truth, the Priest went into a berserker rage and slaughtered the entire facility, even succeeding in decapitating the real Mister Sinister. He then took the surviving children and they began a trek to the fabled land called "Genosha" where the last surviving mutants lived.

When their boat was mere miles away from the island, however, they were attacked by the last squadron of Sentinels, which had been activated by Sinister's last surviving clone. The Priest opted to distract the Sentinels to ensure the children got to safety, despite knowing it would result in his death.

He was able to take two of them out on his own before he began having problems with the overwhelming numbers. However, he soon found himself assisted, not by the children, but by Team X. They had discovered his reality from the Nexus, and thought he would make an excellent team member. After defeating the Sentinels and making sure the children arrived on Genosha, where they were welcomed by Wolverine and Emma Frost, he decided that it was the right choice to join the Team and seek further redemption for his sins.
