Pathogen is one of the comic storylines in the Paragon Comics universe. It's the story of Kent-Alan Ryan, a former student turned antihero after being psychologically altered by a biologically-engineered worm.

Synopsis[]

A hapless young student by the name of Kent-Alan Ryan was unsatisfied with his unsatisfactory school life, having faced both bullies and terrible grades. He found an advertisement by the government-funded science division Antigen, asking for human volunteers for their genetics experiment, with a reward of $10,000 for participating. Kent-Alan decided to sign up, and was chosen as one of many test subjects for a research project aimed at unlocking the potential of the human mind. Kent-Alan, along with the dozens of participants, was infected with a biologically-engineered worm that would take over the subject's brain, merge with it and repair, improve and grant access to certain parts of it. Most of the volunteers had their worms fully take over their minds, forcing them into a comatose state, whereas the others showed signs of unity with the worm. Kent-Alan was the only one with over 80% effectiveness with the worm, but not only did he gain new abilities, his personality was altered as well. Kent-Alan was frightened, and so broke out of Antigen laboratories, and went into hiding to adjust his life to his changed self. Adopting the alias Pathogen from the Project Pathogen which Antigen performed, Kent-Alan had to come to terms his life was changed forever...
