Early Years

Norrin Radd was a native resident on the peaceful planet Zenn-La of the Deneb System, Milky Way Galaxy. The Zenn-Lavians effectively eliminated the plagues commonly associated with human life on Earth such as hunger, disease, crime and war, the result of their quest for advancement and scientific discovery: effectively, they created a Utopian society. Norrin's parents were Jartran and Elmar Radd, who sadly both died during a interplanetary expedition when Norrin was still an adolescent. Like his mother and father, Norrin also dreamed of a society that had more substance. He believed that no goals were left to be achieved on Zenn-La. He was filled with discontent and often went to the museum to watch holograms of Zenn-La's past that revolved around their wars and space travel. This often troubled his long-time lover, Shalla-Bal. She believed they had all they could ever want together, but Norrin always dreamed of something more beyond their home planet.

A Herald of Galactus

Galactus Earth-61615

For years, the Silver Surfer served Galactus

Unfortunately, the fateful day came when their mostly peaceful existence was threatened by the presence of Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, who subsists on the energies provided by entire planets. The Council of Scientists let Norrin use a spaceship to approach Galactus and plead for the sake of the planet. Seeing the hopeless situation of his home planet, Norrin Radd volunteered servitude, becoming a Herald of the Devourer of Worlds in order to spare Zenn-La from the cataclysmic event due to complete obliteration. Galactus humbly accepted his offer as tribute. Given a fraction of the Power Cosmic, and shaped by fantasies Norrin Radd entertained as a child, Galactus transformed Norrin Radd into the Silver Surfer.

Working alongside his fellow cosmically powered heralds, the Silver Surfer's main task was to find planets with the energy to satisfy Galactus’ undying hunger. Over time it became more difficult to find planets without life on them. Knowing Norrin Radd would resist taking a life in the form of the planet's inhabitants, Galactus deliberately altered Norrin's mind to repress his moral compass, allowing Norrin Radd to carry out his grim task of finding suitable planets to feed on. A decidedly introspective character plagued by the sins of his past, Norrin Radd forever seeks redemption, endeavoring to carry out justice throughout the universe.

Arrival on Earth

At least three years has already passed since Radd became a Herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer eventually brought Galactus to Earth, a life-filled blue and green planet in which the Surfer had scouted the past few weeks. In turn, Norrin was confronted by the Fantastic Four, who eventually detected his presence. They fought for a while but eventually, Ben Grimm's love interest Alicia Masters, manages to reach Norrin Radd’s more human side, ultimately awakening his conscience that Galactus managed to suppress for many years.

Rebellion as Herald

After his realization, the Surfer and the Fantastic Four finally interrupts and confronts Galactus, turning on his master much to Galactus' surprise. The Surfer was easily dispatched by Galactus but Reed ultimately manages to repel Galactus with the ultimate nullifier, finally stopping Galactus' plans on devouring Earth, dispatching him from the planet and saving the day. After that, the Silver Surfer became one of the Fantastic Four and other several superheroes of Earth's oldest and most trusted allies.

In reprisal for the Silver Surfer’s rebellious actions as Herald, Galactus and his other loyal heralds created an energy barrier that would prevent the Silver Surfer from leaving Earth. Thankfully, Radd was able to get rid of the barrier, thanks to the help of Fantastic Four and the Masters of the Mystic Arts, though it took for them a few years to figure it out for a while, leaving Radd on the planet as he curiously interact with most of humanity's greatest heroes, where from time to time, he has indeed, found his good side of humanity once again.

As he left the Earth's orbit, he solemnly promised the heroes of Earth that he would do whatever it takes in his utmost power and knowledge to for good, along with the pledge that he would immediately return to Earth whenever its heroes would be needing him the most, before leaving the planet shortly afterwards, venturing into the vastness of space and be a wonderful witness to the universe's far reaching wonder. Later on, he was able to reconcile with his former master, where he miraculously saved his master's life from the combined, more powerful threats of the Elders of the Universe, with Galactus regaining Radd's trust again as one of his most trusted Heralds, along with the opportunity to possess the title of Herald once more albeit not being an active helper in his former master's consumption of worlds, and if he ever did help Galactus, he would strike an agreement with the latter to evacuate the people of the very worlds he chose to consume.

Secret Invasion

During the finale of Skrull Invasion, received the distress signal coming from N.A.S.A., which the Fantastic Four were able to activate, and arrived on Earth just in time, where he battled alongside the heroes of Earth against the Skrull invaders and prevent their long-range plot to take over Earth from ever succeeding. In the final, climactic battle against the Skrulls, Radd honorably fought alongside a slew of Earth's mightiest defending forces, including the Ultimates, S.H.I.E.L.D., the Thunderbolts, the Dark Avengers, and more, along with the help of two of the intergalactic community's heroic outlaws, the entire network of the Ravagers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

During the end of the widespread fighting, a seemingly reformed Norman Osborn, who was doing by the heroic persona of the Iron Patriot, killed the escaping Veranke, the Skull Queen, which ended the war and the attempted invasion, once and for all. Despite this seemingly honorable and courageous act done by the latter, Radd was more disappointed of the way Osborn has apparently redeemed himself and even deemed the action of his to be completely unnecessary, seeing the Surfer more on the side of being rather a cosmic fighter and a defender, but definitely not a killer, even to the foes whom he hated the most, most notably, his on-and-off master Galactus.

The Great Prophecy

Later on after the attempted invasion, Radd and some of the Earth's mightiest heroes were able to capture the last Skrull pilot who failed to escape the planet's atmosphere and tried to interrogate him at a classified S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, inside a finely, secured cell. Mysteriously enough, the Skrull didn't answer any of their intriguing questions, except for one, which was the question of why they came to Earth and attempted to rule and replace it. According to the Skrull, it was an act of mercy for humans of Earth, and an act of preparation for the sake of preventing a universal cataclysmic event, explaining that they had done it in order to save the universe, not necessarily rule it, from an incoming threat from the stars.

However, before they were able to figure out what the pilot was going to answer, they didn't realize that he already shape-shifted his arm into a metallic blade, before immediately slitting his own throat with it, killing himself instantly, with the intent so that none of them was never going to know what exactly, or who exactly was the incoming threat. Distressed by not having to get anything that they needed from the now-deceased pilot, Radd, promising the heroes of Earth that he would do whatever it takes in his utmost power and knowledge to figure out the Skrulls' mysterious prophecy, eventually left the Earth shortly afterwards, in search of answers that he importantly needed, travelling throughout the vast regions of the cosmos to investigate the active Skrull worlds.

Arriving on the original Skrull homeworld of Skrullos, the Surfer confronted Veranke's puppet emperor Dezan already being apprehended by the Skrull general Talos and princess Anelle, who were both against Veranke's extremist rule that led to their imprisonment before being broken out by their comrades and followers since Veranke and her fleet left for the Terran Protocol. The Surfer offered using his Power Cosmic to help the de facto leaders of the dismantled empire in rebuilding Tarnax IV in a new larger planet that would eventually be called Tarnax V, as well as protecting the Skrull worlds that are mostly in chaos from Thanos' Starfleet, eventually leading his investigation to search for Thanos while he started the reconstruction of Tarnax V and the redemptive rehabilitation of the Skrull Empire in the following years.

The Threat of Thanos

After the Cosmic Devourer, Galactus has finally ended the Surfer's long exile and temporarily freed him as one of his Heralds as a "gift" in exchange for when Radd has saved his life once from the inescapable clutches of the Elder of the Universe, Radd had the chance to revisit his home-world for the very first time in years, but Shalla-Bal had become empress of the rejuvenated Zenn-La and was too occupied with her royal and political affairs to renew their romance. Having no other obligation needed to be done on his planet but emotionally suffer not having any sort of chance to reconcile with his former lover, the Surfer eventually found something that temporarily distracted him from his personal problems and his home, and after sensing that something eerie and terrifying was currently soaring above the cosmos, it immediately allured his attention to leave his home planet for now and instead, investigate what it actually was.

Following his journey to investigate the Starfleet of Thanos as he was previously warned by the Skrulls, Radd eventually found the massive warship known as the Sanctuary II, commanded by one of the universe's fiercest, dreadful, and deadliest beings, the Mad Titan himself, Thanos. Keeping his presence low as he could, he followed to where the warship was heading to. That is until, his invisible presence outside the ship was easily detected by one of the Black Order's member, the omnipathic and telepathic parasite, Supergiant. Weakened by Supergiant's telepathic abilities and the rest of the Order's efforts to take him down, Radd fainted in defeat, resulting to his capture inside the massive warship, where he finally met the Mad Titan himself, face to face.

After the Titan confessed to Radd that he had been observing him from the shadows as the Surfer had been using his godly power to help the planets in the Andromeda and its nearby galaxies that were devastated by Thanos (including Skrull worlds), Thanos told Radd a parable from his childhood to compare the latter's Power Cosmic which explicitly told his plans to decimate half the universe using the Infinity Gauntlet as he is currently wielding it, revealing that Thanos already had the Power Stone, the Time Stone, the Reality Stone, and the Soul Stone.

Channeling all of his power, Radd was able to put up a fight against the Black Order whom he efficiently knocked out, only to realize that Thanos had rivaled him in combat as he already wields four of the six Infinity Stones. Despite being beaten up to a pulp, Radd manages to get out of Thanos and the Order's captivity, escaping the Sanctuary II at light speed as he proceeded travelling to Asgard, in the primary intention of warning Thor and the Asgardian Empire to protect the Space Stone from the Mad Titan, before it's too late. Thanos might have appeared to let him go that easily, but in actuality, he was only using Radd's direction as an advantage of conveniently using a shortcut to the Asgardian Realm.

Infinity Quest

Finally arriving at the city of Asgard, Radd was gladly welcomed by his old friend Thor, who even tried to give him a welcome ceremony and tour to the city for his unexpected visit, although Radd immediately turned down his welcome, warning him about the incoming arrival of Thanos and his plan to obtain the Tesseract from Odin's Vault, seeing that it contains the Space Stone. Telling him more about, Thor had Heimdall and the rest of Asgardian civilians evacuated to a safe place where they could hide from the incoming skirmish that was about to occur, while Thor, Radd, and Loki, along with the Einherjar, discussed on how to protect the Tesseract from Thanos. Upon the Thanos' and his army invaded the city and the Einherjar, led by Thor, mounted a defense alongside Radd, Sif and the Warriors Three, and Loki and the Tricksters of Asgard.

Unfortunately, Thanos finally arrived in person to Asgard and Thor joined the others to stop him from getting the Tesseract, but Thanos effortlessly overpowered them all in the end, even to the God of Thunder himself, thanks to his empowered Infinity Gauntlet as the Titan would also chop his left arm with the Jarnbjorn, Thor's second weapon. In order to save his brother and the entirety of Asgard from complete decimation, Loki surrendered the Tesseract to Thanos, only to attempt to kill his former ally. Thanos then turned his wrath upon Loki, receiving a fatal strangulation from the Mad Titan himself, which almost killed the God of Mischief, if Radd didn't get to stop Thanos and save him in time. Finally using the Space Stone, Thanos and the Order returned to his main warship outside of Asgard in order to recover from their fleet's loss and to prepare for their next destination, Earth, in search for the final Stone, the Mind Stone.

Upon his escape from failing to battle Thanos, alongside the Asgardians, for the safeguarding of the Space Stone, Silver Surfer has decided to leave the aftermath battleground in hopes for warning the rest of Earth's heroes as Thanos' next and final stone was the Mind Stone, to which he as able to immediately realize where it was, after remember it was still located within Vision's forehead. Travelling to Earth almost faster the speed of light, Radd has crash landed through the window of the New York Sanctum in New York City, creating a massive crater in the building's staircase. As Doctor Strange and Wong investigated, Radd had frighteningly warned his old friends that Thanos was coming.

He tells him the events, that have transpired and hopes that it is not too late for the three, and the rest of Earth's heroes to work to prevent them from ever happening. He was able to gather the help of Strange, the Ultimates, and some of Earth's mightiest heroes who were willing to help and protect Vision and his Mind Stone from Thanos. While aided by the powerful Radd and some of the Earth's mightiest heroes, they were successful in defeating and killing all of Thanos's forces, however, once Thanos himself personally arrived, the tides were completely turned against them and they were hopelessly outmatched by the Titan, who successfully assembled the stones.

When Thanos gained the power of all six Infinity Stones and snapped his fingers to wipe out half of the universe's population, Radd found himself one of the few survivors to be left on Earth. In the wake of the haunting aftermath caused by Thanos' universal mass slaughter, Thor, along with the remainder of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the newly-emerged Infinity Watch, has finally arrived on Earth find the heroes in order to discuss their next step into finding Thanos, only to find out what was still left on the planet, seeing and realizing that only few of the Earth's mightiest heroes have luckily survived the fall of the battle and the aftermath of the deadly snap.

Infinity War

Thanos Earth-61615 Gauntlet 2

Fightning alongside the surviving heroes, Silver Surfer valiantly faced Thanos for the Infinity Stones

However, the alliance of the surviving heroes, antiheroes, and several redeemed villains never gave up on saving the universe. In the span of one year and five months since the Decimation had passed, with the Surfer believing that hope is and will always be there, and eventually teamed up to track down and battle Thanos himself and his remaining Starfleet in the surface of his Sanctuary during the finale of the so-called Infinity War, aided by the Cosmic Entities Love, Hate, the Stranger, Epoch, Chaos, Order as well as Surfer's former master, Galactus, who the Surfer had helped summon the rest of the Cosmic Entities without the need to convincing him, as Galactus had the same thought as the rest of the entities that Thanos' godly powers could worsen the state of the universe more than he had already did wiping out half of its life.

However, despite the assembled forces, Thanos was able to defeat all and momentarily imprison them in a catatonic state. In the process, the Surfer battled Thanos medieval style with limited powers and the Surfer emerged victorious, but refuses to kill Thanos, implying that he is and will never be a killer to anyone. When he turns his back on the Mad Titan, Thanos attacks him and the Surfer forcibly yielded to his own mighty foe. Although most heroes were seemingly defeated, he overlooked Nebula who was able to wrest the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos' hand. Her first act was to undo all that has occurred, which inadvertently freed the heroes and the cosmic entities and resurrected most of those who have once withered away into ash by the Titan's snap of changing reality. The battle resumed with Nebula's painfully uncontrolled rage, and in the end it was Adam Warlock who effectively saved Nebula as he possessed the Gauntlet unscathed, ending the conflict for the Infinity Gauntlet, for now.
