Nikolai Romanov (Russian: Николай Романовы) is a descendant of Russian royalty who was abandoned at a young age and was found by the Red Room who trained him in the Black Spider Ops Program, becoming their star pupil. Upon graduation, he was soon recruited by the Russian government, and became one of the world's greatest and most ruthless assassins, earning him the codename "Black Spider".
He later went on a path of redemption by defecting to the USA, drawing the attention of Nicole Fury, who recruited him to join S.H.I.E.L.D. at Chris Barton's recommendation, even joining the Avengers.
