History[]
Early Years[]
Born under the name Marcus Johnson, Nicholas Joseph Fury Jr. (born June, 1958) spent years completely unaware of his true origins. That he was the product of a fling between Strategic Science Reserve employee Nia Jones and highly decorated and legendary war hero, as well as one of S.H.I.E.L.D. founders, Nicholas Joseph Fury Sr. Namely because Nick Fury Sr. feared that if people learned of his child they would constantly target him to try to get to him. Convincing Nia of this she quietly retired from the S.S.R., took the surname Johnson, and then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Jr. was born. Where he then grew up having a completely normal life, believing his father was dead as that was the story Nia and Fury Sr. had come up with to explain his absence in young Marcus life. Though that didn't make lying to her son any easier for Nia. As such she showered him with enough love for two parents. Creating a strong bond between Marcus and his mother. Though they did have their rough patches, especially when despite obtaining a full-ride scholarship to college due to his football skills Marcus declined it in favor of enlisting in the Army. Where he served a full tour, where he then came back stateside and obtained a college degree before re-enlisting and being made an officer. Who was then put into Army Ranger school, where he met a man who would become one of his closest, and in time best friend, who went by the nickname Cheese.
From Johnson To Fury[]
After graduation Army Ranger school Marcus then got back to what he found he did best, completing missions for the US Army. Several of which he was put in charge of, and ran jointly with the CIA Special Activities Division, where he achieved desired results and then some. This saw him quickly rise through the ranks of the armed forces and be one of a only a handful to achieve the rank of colonel before even hitting his 30th birthday. Some of which was partially due to the fact he had inherited the Infinity Formula in his blood from his father, which unlike S.H.I.E.L.D.'s then directors formula was permanent and naturally produced by Marcus' body. A fact with Arnim Zola, one of HYDRA's leaders, and one of Nick Fury Sr. greatest enemies, eventually learned when he discovered the existence of Marcus through intelligence from HYDRA sleepers agents after the younger Fury decided to join up permanently with the CIA's Special Activities Division in the late 1980's. Once this happened Zola began hatching a plan to capture the young Marcus and experiment on him to extract the secrets of the Infinity Formula from his blood, and then dispose of him to cause pain to his old enemy Fury Sr. Which didn't take Arnim long to do. Then once he hatched the plan he immediately put it into motion, the first part of which involved murdering Marcus' mother Nia to draw him out, of which Arnim and his followers were successful in.
After his mother's death Marcus immediately returned home for her funeral. But while there he also looked into his mother's passing and found it was unusual, which is exactly what Arnim and HYDRA intended, since they had left a trail for Marcus to follow. Which he did, with his old friend Coulson by his side. The two friends none the wiser they were walking straight into a trap. Where once sprung they couldn't get out off, and they found themselves captured. However it didn't stay that way for long, since shortly after this occurred S.H.I.E.L.D. rescued him, having done so on direct orders from Fury Sr., who despite not having any contact with Nia and Marcus for years had always secretly kept tabs on them without letting anyone but his most trusted allies know. It was this action that saved Coulson and Marcus from the clutches of HYDRA, though not before Marcus lost an eye to his captors, leaving him just like his father. Whom he finally met after the situation regarding his mother's murder was resolved. Where at first the younger Fury was immensely angry with his father, but after some time to cool down and think he came to terms with his father's reasons for staying out his and his mother's life. He then slowly began working on building a relationship with the man. Part of which, with some encouragement on Fury Sr., had Marcus embrace his father's lifestyle and become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D himself, along with Coulson. He also changed his name to the one he was actually born with, Fury Sr. having told it to him, and so Marcus Johnson was soon born anew as Nicholas Fury Jr. agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Agent To Director[]
After changing his name and becoming an agent of S.H.I.E.L.Dm Fury Jr. quickly began to distinguish himself. Climbing the ranks of the international peace-keeping organization without any assistance from his father. It was during this time he also met and married fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Monica Chang, and even had a son by her. Though their marriage did not last long as it was obvious Fury Jr. had great ambitions. So with that they divorced, but amicably since they still cared for each other, worked together, and had a child together.
Eventually Fury Jr. climbed high enough within S.H.I.E.L.D. that when his father chose to step down as director of the organization in 1999 he was easily able to select him to replace. Since he had more than proven himself. Thus Nicholas Fury Jr. when from an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to director of the entire organization.
Director Years[]
Now the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury Jr. found himself immediately facing problems of which his father and those before him never had to deal with. The single greatest one being the explosion of the superhuman population going into the 21st century. Which is why after his superiors created laws that made genetic modification illegal, unless performed by a government agency or an organization affiliated with one, and tasked S.H.I.E.L.D. with enforcing these new laws, Fury Jr. began turning S.H.I.E.L.D. into a more militaristic organization. He also decided to resurrect Project: Rebirth on hopes of giving S.H.IE.L.D. an edge by giving them their own super-soldiers. To that end he recruited world-class scientists along the likes of Bruce Banner and Hank Pym to work on the project. But it never bore any true results and soon most of the top scientists left it. Either for personal reasons or professional. Faced with this Fury Jr. had no choice but to greatly reduce the projects funding. That is until the year 2008 when the living legend Captain America was discovered by a S.H.I.E.L.D expedition team led by agent Sharon Carter in the article circle. But what was in more surprising was that he was alive and well. That's when Fury began putting more funding back into Rebirth.
A decision he felt even more sure of after he and S.H.IE.L.D. encountered Thor and the Asgardian's in New Mexico in the same year. Then the following year when he himself dealt with extraterrestrials. When he aided Carol Danvers, Maria Rambeau, and the Kree scientist and soldier Mar-Vell in protecting a peaceful faction of Skrull from Mar-Vell's commander Yon-Rogg. In the aftermath of which he found that same Skrull faction a home on Earth. He also worked to establish an organization dedicated to dealing with extraterrestrial threats, known as S.W.O.R.D.
Though one of Fury Jr. greatest accomplishments as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. came in the summer of 2010 when the Asgardian prince Loki came to Earth and stole the tesseract. After which Fury Jr. initiated an old protocol started by his father and brought together a group of remarkable people which were Anthony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, and the married couple Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne who along with Loki's brother Thor and Fury Jr. fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff came together and saved the world from Loki and his Chitauri army, after which they formed a superhero team known as the Avengers. To fight the battles the world couldn't it and save it when it needed saving. A mission Fury Jr. put the full force of S.H.I.E.L.D. behind in supporting. Aiding the Avengers against many enemies both big and small, like murderous android Ultron. Though despite all he had accomplished Fury Jr. time as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. would abruptly come to an end.
HYDRA Uprising[]
In the Spring of 2014 Fury Jr. ends up following a series of clues that trigger an attempt on his life. Which he manages to survive and then go underground, letting only his most trusted allies know he is still alive. After this he does some digging, and then with the knowledge obtained from Captain America, who was framed for his "murder", he and his allies learn that Hydra did not die out during World War II and has been re-building itself. Largely as S.H.I.E.L.D. Faced with this harsh truth Fury Jr. and his allies decide to dump all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s classified files onto the internet to stop their enemies plans. They also do battle at the Triskelion to stop Hydra from using the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. project Insight for their own purposes.
During these course of events Nicholas Fury Sr. loses his life by sacrificing it. Now faced with the loss of his father, a man he had become close too since their connection was revealed, Fury Jr. vows to hunt down those responsible. But he also knows despite all that has happened the world still needs S.H.IE.L.D. So with that in mind he passes leadership of the organization over to his best friend Phil Coulson, before going off the grid to take down Hydra and the other new threats his own way. Mainly overseas. Which involved working with the European Defense Initiative and volunteers from the Skrull faction who have agreed to act as a spy and information network for Fury. One of which, a female named Scylla, Fury Jr. becomes extremely close to and eventually enters into a romantic relationship with.
Secret Warriors[]
In the wake of the start of the Ultimate Alliance War Fury Jr. re-established contact with Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D. and begins working with them again to support the hero's from the shadows. To that end Fury and Coulson establish a small-elite unit composed of superhuman individuals, similar to the World War II Howling Commandos, known as the Secret Warriors. Which Fury himself is chosen to lead. A task he carries out with pride. Seeing them through the Ultimate Alliance, the Secret Invasion, and even the Norman Osborn Dark Reign. That is until S.H.I.E.L.D. is legitimately re-established permanently after the events of the Dark Reign. After which Fury once again leaves his S.H.I.E.L.D. allies behind to continue the remaining battle against the survivors of the Cabal, namely Hydra who brought them together in the first place.
Ambassador Fury[]
After the events of the Infinity Saga, with Earth now truly standing on the galactic stage, Fury Jr. is asked by S.W.OR.D. and several other high-ranking officials from across the globe to become the planets first official intergalactic ambassador. A post which he accepts. If only so he could continue protecting the world from danger. As he had been doing for most of his adult life.
