History

Early Life

Natalia was born in Stalingrad, Russian SFSR, USSR. Her father was a Russian spy and a assassin. She reportedly began training towards the life of an assassin by her father when she was just a child. After her father passed away, she began to follow her dad's footsteps and became an assassin for the soviet army. she became ruthless effectiveness in later years and earned her the codename, "Black Widow."

During the Cold war, Natalia was an assassin for the Soviet terrorist group, lead by MalikThe Soviet Red Skull. This life underwent a dramatic change when she was targeted for assassination herself, and the agent sent to kill her was the similarly gifted soldier, Clinton Barton. Instead of killing her, Barton spared her life and the pair helped the U.S.Army take down Malik and developed a lasting partnership from that moment on. Following Barton a few years later, the Black Widow was drawn into a new life as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Her past, however, would remain a touchy subject for her, and Widow tried to start a new life going by the name "Natasha Romanoff."

Invasion of the Kree

The Widow seems to have genetic or cybernetic enhancements that allow her to coordinate herself in combat far better than the average human, being able, for instance, to leap across the gap between two high-rises. She was originally part of the Avengers' covert operations ("black ops") team, but later was chosen to be the member of the Avengers when a hostile alien race known as the Kree threatened to take over Earth. When the Kree revealed themselves and moved to attack New York and other parts of the world, Romanoff found herself again battling in close quarters, this time against aliens bent on world domination. The martial arts skills and small arms of the Black Widow were ideal for battling the Kee in the streets, and when her own weaponry was spent, she made good use of Kree armaments turned on their previous owners. Natasha and the team later learned from the Kree soldier captured by the others that they would use a weapon that would kill all meta-humans. Her teammate Iron Man asked Thor to help him dispose of the Kree bomb so Thor teleported it to the Kree mothership from above and detonates it. Where its detonation caused only a small ripple and the destruction of their core ship deactivated the cybernetic Kree. When the battle was over, Romanoff gathered with the others to see off their captive Ronan the Accuser. The threat had been neutralized and for a time the world would have little need of its protectors. The others went their separate ways, while Romanoff and Barton returned to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Red Winter

Black Widow became a frequent comrade-in-arms of Captain America when they were assigned on missions together. They became the co-leaders of the counter-terrorist team The Invaders. After the Pakistani-an President was murdered, Black Widow and the Invaders team were assigned to Pakistan help Captain America retrieve stollen Pakistani nuclear warheads before any go missing. When director Nick Fury was gunned down and captured by an assassin, Black Widow and Captain America went to retrieve Fury from his captives and brings him to in a rundown gym in Brooklyn New York and set up base of operations. Based on Steve's description of the assassin, Fury identified the killer as the Winter Soldier and that Hydra were the ones behind his kidnapping. Widow and her team were later branded fugitives after the president of the United States accused them for stealing the nuclear warheads.

Natasha deduces that someone could be impersonating the President. So Fury leads them to one of his secret safe houses who provides them with weapons and helps them infiltrate a fundraising event in Washington D.C. that the President will be attending, where Natasha Romanoff steals a sample of his DNA and confirms that he Dmitri Smerdyakov, a Hydra agent disguised as the president while the real president could be held up in a Hydra base somewhere. They escape before they were caught. The following night, Natasha, Steve, Sam Wilson and John Walker encountered a roadblock and were attacked by Crossbones SHIELD/HYDRA Agents and a red headed woman known as Sin, HYDRA's dangerous assassin and the trio were met with a hail of gunfire at the highway. However the four heroes were easily captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., but while being transported under guard they were rescued by a disguised life model decoy of Nick Fury and bring them to a hideout. Sin was also in the van with them and was taken into custody by the heroes where it was revealed in their interrogations that Sin was actually Sinthea Schmidt, and that the Red Skull is her father. After a short investigation, the team found out that Red Skull and HYDRA planned to use Protocol Genesis to bring about HYDRA's new world order. It involved seven SHIELD Hellicarriers armed with a weapon that could drop a Tungsten rod with a force equivalent to a nuclear bomb. It would launch them on different targets across the world, including United States. Sin also reveled that Baron Von Strucker and Hydra recovered a hidden cache of high tech Soviet era weapons gleamed from an alien artifact and The Winter Soldier just so happened to be one of them. Sin was forced to give them a flashdrive where they discover the location of Strucker and the weapons in Kaliningrad. Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson went to go recover the weapons from Strucker while Black Widow, Maria Hill, John Walker and Clint Barton goes to Washington D.C. to stop Hydra from detonating the Tungsten rods. They succeeded and the real President is put back into power. Natasha later appeared before the ceremony in Washington D.C. where she and alongside Cap and her team were honored as heroes. Later, Natasha met up with Steve and gave him a dossier on Bucky and the Winter Soldier program. He, Natasha and Sam then decided to try to track Bucky down and end Hydra's reign of terror for good.

Avengers Reassembled

After the events of Red Winter transpired, the Avengers reassembled and had been serving the United States government as part of its "police" force in the War on Terror, thus alienating the entire international community and controlling natural resources from Third World countries.

Ronan's Universal Weapon which had been part of the conflict during the Kree Invasion, fell into the hands of Hydra's Baron Strucker, and Romanoff soon rejoined her Avengers teammates in trying to recover it. Their mission took them to Strucker's Hydra research base where the alien device had been used in experiments to create enhanced soldiers. Romanoff herself helped fight a multitude of Hydra soldiers outside the base while Iron Man and Ant-Man penetrated the old castle and recovered the Staff.

Black Widow was later revealed to be a traitor, responsible for framing Thor and Captain America, and aiding the Flag Smashers in their invasion of America. When Iron Man captured her, and brings her back to S.H.I.E.L.D. she revealed that she was blackmailed by her ex-husband Nikolai Krylenko, a member of the Flag Smashers known as Red Guardian. When asked what were they're motives, she tells them that the Avengers actions in alienating Third countries and the aftermath of Project Genesis ultimately led to several nations secretly forming their own superhuman team known as the Flag Smashers. A team formed to cripple the country that crippled and turned Mother Russia into a bankrupt nation.

Immediately afterword, the Flag Smashers quickly damaged the Triskelion and captured the Avengers and almost all of America's superheroes. However, the team bounced back and Natasha regained their trust helped counterattack the Flag Smashers and stopped Thor's evil half-brother known as Loki the god of mischief, the one who orchestrated the entire event just so he could prove himself as the god of mischief and to prove his brother Thor that he was better then him.

Having experienced that working with the U.S. government and its resulted upbringing, The Avengers decided to leave S.H.I.E.L.D., and continued to work as a independent superhero team instead. Natasha on the other hand decided that she's is no longer a member of the Avengers and became an ally for when they need her, though she also didn't agree with The Avenger's "No-Killing" rule.
