I would love to do everything that I can to help you on whatever the heck's goin' on with that genius brain of yours...
May Parker

Early Years

Maybelle "May" Reilly was born and raised in the spring of 1952 to a fundamentalist, middle-class Italian-American family who were formerly involved with organized crime in Italy before immigrating to the United States, specifically New York City, during the early years of World War II in order to start a better life free from committing any crime. Despite being raised by strict parents to be the "good role model" of a daughter they expected her to be, May surprisingly grew up with her social circle's powerful influence which led her into becoming a rebellious party person and an occasional pleasure seeker, being often considered to be fun, flirty, and fierce whenever she travels explores the entertaining boroughs of New York City with her friends, most notably her best friend Mary Fitzpatrick, along with May's good friend and former lover Richard "Richie" Parker, who ended their relationship due to the later revelation that he was secretly in love with Mary.

However, as a young May and her friends were living the free life during high school, it abruptly met its end after they were finally caught by their own respective parents. Mary was sent by her parents to the west coast of the country in order to begin studying in college, while Richie was encouraged by her relatives to be trained in military service. As each and every of her friends become occupied by the restraining responsibilities of early adulthood, May herself was all alone, as she herself has to bear her own responsibilities now that she has entered a larger world without relying too much on her parents' providence, who ended up becoming financially unstable that her dreams and thoughts of going to college have slowly dusted into oblivion. Because of her family's situation, May had a change of mindset, in which she began to work harder than she was playing hard in her youth, realizing that she's already an adult. At some point in time after living in New York when she had to work with multiple jobs in her late twenties, a more somber and stoic May felt like she was being rescued by fate from existential dread and alienation when she met and became enamored with a man named Ben Parker, whom coincidentally went to the same high school as him before they even met, and the two would eventually get married as a fruit seeded by their unconditional love for each other, especially after a few years of their to-be-long-lasting relationship.

However, the married Ben and May Parker would later experience several trials and ordeals in their adult life as a couple, which included May's strict parents and the painful revelation that was May's past relationship with Richie, who happened to be Ben's younger brother, back in their high school days. Ben was obviously furious and depraved at first for learning the unexpected, but eventually became very understanding and forgave towards Richie, since the latter was now engaged (and later married) May's close friend, Mary Fitzpatrick, and finally accepted the fact that despite how much the pain and pleasure Mary had with Richie, it was all in the past, thus rendering Ben and Richie to move on with their lives and current loved ones. Both Ben and May had planned to conceive a child in their thirties, only to reveal that May was infertile, which left the two heartbroken for a while, before realizing that not even this dismaying news could sterilize their love for each other.

Raising Peter

Despite their consistent, contented, and relieving life as a couple, May and Ben were devastated when Richard and Mary died mysteriously in a plane crash, not long ago, only a week after leaving their son Peter with them. For the next few years, Ben and May cared for and raised Peter like a son, something that May had been secretly wishing her whole old life that was to have a child to take care of. Soon after starting to raise Peter and living with Ben. As time passed, Uncle Ben would willingly take over as Peter's father figure and daily mentor since Richard died, and as Peter grew, May came to be proud of her young nephew's intelligence as she sincerely guided him in achieving his academic pursuits. When Peter was bullied due to his intelligence and awkward personality, Ben often cheers Peter up along with his friends, and teaches him how to deal with bullies without causing much harm, although May herself was somewhat skeptic by her husband's too optimistic and pacifistic values, eventually encouraging her to teach their nephew to fight back only when needed, showing how much she loves that she is willing to teach him how to fight for himself whenever she and his uncle are not around to defend him. Ben eventually found out what she was teaching Peter, but instead of bickering May in any way, he couldn't be more proud for her as he knew that she was right to lecture Peter about the unfair perspective of the world.

Aunt & Nephew

Everything was fine and dandy to the three as long as they were together to console each other, but everything changed when the greatest tragedy struck May' life by the late 1990s. Ben was suddenly shot by a fleeing criminal and notorious gangster named Dennis Carradine, the same burglar his nephew failed to stop earlier that same night, near the Parker Residence in his attempt to have a non-aggressive confrontation with Carradine, May and her beloved nephew had greatly mourned his untimely passing, before the burglar himself was caught and subsequently apprehended by the mysterious, short-lived vigilante named Masked Marvel, who handed an unconscious Carradine to the authorities shortly after. May was relieved by the fact that her husband's killer was brought to justice for good, but was still disheartened on the reality that he is gone.

Despite losing Ben, she willingly took on the responsibility of raising Peter alone with every once of her strength, as she loyally stood by him throughout his many hardships as a teenager until he finally reaches the stage of adulthood, wherein she would eventually come in terms of discovering his heroic alter-ego as Spider-Man during the Chitauri Invasion (late 2000s), due to Peter feeling inspired by Ben's altruistic ideals and teachings of great responsibility, something that May was initially against his vigilante life out of her instinctive concern for her beloved, but ended up becoming grateful for now after clearly seeing how much she and Ben have raised Peter to be the very best version of himself.

Notes

  • Most of Ben, Richie, May, and Mary's young adult lives were based on the 2003 limited series comic Trouble, which was a series that was considered by Marvel's editorial group as the possible origin of Spider-Man, until it was officially established to set in a different universe. The comic also included the affair of May and Richie as teenagers, and while the same instance occurred in this reality, the two never conceived Peter as it happened in the series, since the latter was conceived by Mary and Richie, like most of the traditional incarnations, and the other fact that this reality's May Parker was infertile.
