History

Mayday is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson she like many others is a product of what many call the superhero baby boom which is the phenomenon where many superheroes began to settle down and have children from the late 80s to the 90s. Eventually the rise of Ultron stopped many of the heroes from living their normal lives to the fullest.

Early Life

New Addition To The Family

New Addition To The Family

May "Mayday" Parker was born in the year 1994 to Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. She was named after Peter's aunt who had died just a couple of years prior. As a young child May was sheltered from her father's past as her parents didn't want May growing up with her father's powers or getting the idea she could become a superhero too. Peter was already on the brink of retirement and was not planning to don the suit for much longer. As a result the young May was oblivious to her father's actions as Spider-Man for a very long time.

In the Year of 1998 Ultron Struck. When the monster robot had decided to attack New York May and her mother had been out of state, and rather were in Pennsylvania visiting Mary Jane's side of the family which would end up being far enough to avoid the nuclear blasts Ultron let off, and yet still not far enough that they couldn't see the city go up in flames.

Spider-Man was supposed to be in Pennsylvania as well, but had been held up by his work as Spider-Man. He had been planning on leaving New York that day but when he saw the Avengers fighting the robot and seemingly losing, his decision had been quick. So with a call to Mary Jane and May he explained what he was going to do to MJ's chagrin. Peter had seemed to know what could possibly be coming, and so he hesitantly explained to May what he was doing revealing his identity of Spider-Man to her. He made MJ promise not to come looking for him, and to stay as far away from New York as possible. He told them he loved them one last time before ending the call. Like the rest of the world May and her Mother watched the destruction of New York on TV. Watching the broadcast they knew Peter had died fighting Ultron.

Unlike most people who had no clue what to do when Ultron began calling himself the new Overlord of the planet, MJ had a great plan and that was getting out of the country, she immediately began hoping states with May but they never made it far before leaving the US seemed to become impossible. With a change of plans MJ headed to Oregon, and found solace in her and Peter's old house which they had lived in briefly when Peter had believed that he was not the one true Spider-Man and had been losing his powers. There they settled down in Oregon and kept their heads down. Lucky not catch Ultron's ire.

For a lot of her life May lived in fear knowing that if she did begin to exhibit powers Ultron would most likely kill her, as he seemed to know when that sort of thing happened. Also since he had killed Spider-Man he probably knew his identity also, so it would be easier for him to catch her.

In Oregon life had started over for the Mother-Daughter duo, and they did their best to help people as much as they could but also didn't want to attract attention to their selves. Eventually May was enrolled in school and somewhat forgot about her possible super abilities. When it was announced in 2008 that the Heroes of Tomorrow had defeated Ultron. May and MJ could finally relax, but the memories of Peter was strong in both of their minds.

Spider-Powers

Becoming a Vigilante

Becoming a Vigilante

In 2009 on a seemingly random day, May had developed her Spider-Powers. She had always been a rather fit girl, but when she woke up her muscles were much more toned, had developed a rather robust set of abs, could see as far as it seemed she wanted too, and had the strength to break anything and seemingly everything in their house. Mary Jane had told her many time that her and Peter had never wanted her to develop powers, and for that reason at first she did her best to keep things hidden. At first she would go out and help people in the dead of the night, helping with construction work or cleaning up the city. It wasn't until she stopped her first petty crime that she began to feel the urge to help the best of her ability. And that caused her to begin to delve deep into the small possessions of her father's things MJ had from Pennsylvania, and the Oregon house. One of these things was an old Spider-Man costume. It was torn and unusable but it had given May the inspiration to create her own. The webshooters she struggled to create on her own as well, but an older pair had functioned just fine, and she had managed to create the Web Formula from her fathers notes as well.

Becoming Spider-Girl

Becoming Spider-Girl

For a month May had managed to keep her secret from her Mother, but Mary Jane was also experienced in signs of superheroing, and when she finally took a closer look into May she found what was wrong, and what was keeping her up late at night. At first Mary Jane was furious, mostly at the fact that May had decided to keep her powers a secret when she knew how important it was for Mary Jane to know if her powers ever developed. Despite what May expected MJ wasn't all that mad about her going the route of Spider-Girl. She admitted that she wished May wouldn't need to be a hero but also wasn't dumb enough to believe she wasn't needed in the world at the moment. Anyone could see the world simply wasn't the same as it was 15 or so years ago. And she knew that if any of the older heroes were still alive it would be all hands on deck, so while she wished it didn't have to be this way, she respected the fact that May wanted to help and simply made her promise she would do her best to come home every night.

Avengers & Doom

In September of 2010 May was visited by Captain America. She had been a vigilante for nearly a year and this was her first time meeting another hero. May initially thought she was been tracked by a bad guy and pounced on Captain America who had been following her home. She questioned who he was, and was met with a swift kick to the face. At first May was mad and a little hurt before she realized who it was and began to profusely apologize. Captain America however had simply waved it away telling her that she was really strong and it usually took more than that to take him down. They went to her house where Cap talked with Mary Jane for a while about May and the past, and eventually was allowed to take May with him to the Biodome for training with the rest of the Avengers and the recently arrived X-Men.[1]

James was a little apprehensive of taking May immediately simply because he had been alerted to a problem by the Avengers back at the Biodome. Eventually she swayed him to let her go and so the new duo went to the Compound together. There they learned that Doctor Doom seemed to be planning some sort of attack, and that the Avengers wanted to strike first and takedown Doom before he began to take them out first. Despite being a rookie hero with not much known about her aside from the basic Spider-Powers she managed to convince James once again to allow her to help. Even though the hero was told to let her stay at the Compound James acquiesced, with his only requirement being that she stayed by his side. That didn't happen for their entire time in Latveria, but Spider-Girl proved to be a big help, and a decent fighter for someone who had never been in a true battle until then. She helped the others convince Franklin and Valeria to leave Doom's teachings behind, and now seems to be an Avenger-In-Training.[2][3]

Annihilation

When May was first approached by James to join the Avengers Academy she was a bit miffed as she had thought that her showing with Doom was going to be enough to simply allow to become an Avenger in the first place. She was very close to rejecting but when he explained to her that it was a precaution for the governments she understood and accepted.

She was with her other Academy partners Dani and Cassie when a robot began to attack Manhattan. May was the one who managed to convince James to let the heroes go as backup for the mission. It ended up not mattering too much in the long run as James eventually sent them away because the robot had copied the Avengers abilites and he didn't want the robot to copy their's as well.

May along with Dani and Cassie were surprised when they were included in a meetiong with the Avengers, Jim Hammond, and Valeria Richards. Valeria began to explain that the Adaptoid had actually come from the Negative Zone a new dimension that Valeria had discovered.

At the mention of that the three newbies were sent out as this was considered to be above their paygrade this annoyed May, but eventually the next day there was a second meeting on the same subject and they were allowed in.

May helped convince the others to go to the Negative Zone. She, Dani, and Cassie specifically had helped James come to the decision he always knew he needed to admit. Spider-Girl had told him that this seemed obvious and was Superhero 101, but she also told him that if he was going to say no then she was sure that he had a good enough reason.[4] [5]

Eventually this helped James say what he wanted too and the mission to the Negative Zone began. The group consisting of Torunn, Riri, Jim, Valeria, and Pym left that same day and came back in minutes explaining to everyone the time difference. They had spent a week there, but it was only 2 minutes on Earth. This set up new plans to get ready to fight Annihilus in one week.[6] [7]

During the week May, Dani, Cassie, James, Francis, and Torunn had an encounter with Lyra, Bruce's daughter from the 23rd century. They fought her and lost and were doubly surprised when her mission was seemingly to get a kiss from James. Eventually everything cleared up between the groups and she joined them in their fight against Annihilus. Though May was a little confused about Lyra and her interest in Captain America.[8]

During the fight against Annihilus May was a huge part of the ground forces that stopped everything from spilling out into the city and to the Mansion. May had been a big part of the plan that eventually took him down as well. She distracted him long enough to give Vision a chance to take the Cosmic Converter Rod, weakening him significantly. It was hard fight but eventually Annihilus was taken down. Afterwards James gave up the shield and named Dani his successor. This event caused a domino effect that led to May, Dani, Cassie, Lyra, and Robbie to named official Avengers. May is considered one of the faces of this "All-New All-Different Avengers." [9] [10]

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Spider Physiology: Spider-Girl possesses the proportionate powers of a spider she inherited from her father, granting her superhuman strength, speed, toughened flesh, and numerous arachnid-like abilities. She hasn't proven to be as strong as her father but she also possesses more agility than him and an advanced Spider-Sense.

  • Wall-Crawling: May possesses the ability to manipulate the inter-atomic binding forces of matter, allowing her to form temporary molecular bonds between her body and another object, which in turn enables her to cling to solid surfaces and scale walls simply by placing her hands on them. Her electrostatic ability to stick to surfaces is considerably more powerful than Peter's, however, wall crawling does not come as naturally to May as to her father, and must always concentrate to stick to surfaces. She also has the ability to transmit this ability through objects for short distances. For example, Spider-Girl could stick to the floor, and by transmitting her electrostatic "stickiness" through the floor, cause all people and objects in contact with the floor (within a reasonable distance) to become stuck in place. Lastly, she can reverse this ability and instead repel off of a surface. This is generally used to add power to her jumps, but has also been used to repel people and objects away from her at great speeds. This ability is assumed to be unique to her.
  • Superhuman Strength: Spider-Girl possesses superhuman strength enabling her to press and lift up to five tons. Her father was able to lift much more than this it's expected that as May get's older she will be stronger too.
  • Superhuman Speed: Spider-Girl is capable of running and moving at speeds that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Spider-Girl's advanced musculature produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than an ordinary human. This allows her to exert herself physically for much longer periods of time before fatigue begins to impair her.
  • Superhuman Durability: Spider-Girl's body is physically tougher and more resistant to some types of injury than the body of a normal human. Her body is more resistant to impact forces than anything else. She can withstand great impacts, such as falling from a height of several stories or being struck by an opponent with super strength, that would severely injure or kill a normal human with little to no discomfort.
  • Superhuman Agility: Spider-Girl's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are all enhanced to levels that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
  • Superhuman Equilibrium: Spider-Girl possesses the ability to achieve a state of perfect equilibrium in any position imaginable. She seems able to adjust her position by instinct, which enables her to balance herself on virtually any object, no matter how small or narrow.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Spider-Girl's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are possibly about 40 times greater than those of an ordinary human. In combination with her spider-sense, the speed of her reflexes allows her to dodge almost any attack even gun fire if far enough.
  • Spider-Sense: Spider-Girl possesses an extrasensory "danger" or "spider" sense which warns her of potential immediate danger, and links with her superhuman kinesthetics, enabling her to evade most any injuries, unless she cognitively overrides her automatic reflexes.

Spider-Enhanced Regenerative Healing: Somewhat like her father, she has the ability to regenerate from physical injuries, however it doesn't necessarily count as a healing factor.

  • May was very excited to meet Torunn, who seemed to be her favourite Avenger. [14]
  • May does a lot of things in her father's name. She's heard countless stories of her father's heroics and when she is in a tight situation she constantly asks herself "What would Dad do?"
  • May is one of the faces of the New Avengers. Her work around New York already has people talking about her, and her father's popularity has really made her one of the more popular heroes at the moment.
