History[]

Early Years[]

Matthew Michael "Matt" Murdock (born February, 1981) was the only son and child of wash-upped boxer Jonathan Murdock, and his wife at the time Margaret Murdock. The latter of whom Matt thought was dead for years, since when he was a baby she joined the local Catholic Church and became a nun, reverting back to her maiden name Grace. Since she had severe postpartum depression after Matt was born and couldn't properly take care of him, or herself. Thus she left it to Jonathan to raise him, the man allowing Matt to believe his mother had died since he thought it would be easier than knowing the truth. One he himself didn't even understand all that well. But despite this decision Jonathan took great care in raising Matt, always encouraging him to study and make something of himself so he wouldn't end up in the same situation he was. Matt taking these words from his father to heart. Since the two of them had a very close relationship, with Matt often stitching up his dad's injuries when he returned home from his boxing matches.

Though all that came to an end when Matt was nine years old, when one day he saved an elderly man from being hit by a truck, belonging to the Roxxon Energy Corporation, by pushing him out of the way. Which resulted in the truck getting into a accident and its contents, hazardous chemicals, spilling out from it and splashing Matt across the face, permanently blinding him. But while recovering from the accident in the hospital Matt discovered all his other remaining senses had been enhanced to superhuman degrees. He also developed what he would name a "radar sense" that formed a mental picture of his surroundings. All of which he kept a secret from everyone around him, even his father. While he worked to control his new heightened senses on his own. He also learned how to read Braille, and found himself adjusting to life as "blind". Though Matt's new stability came crashing down when his father was murdered by a local fixer and mobster by the name of Roscoe Sweeney. After this occurred Matt was sent to live at Saint Agnes Orphanage where he experienced terrible nightmares, which caused him to wake up screaming. In response to this his mother Maggie, who now secretly watched over him, would start holding his hand at night until he fell back asleep. That is until one night Matt called for help and no one ever came, since Maggie was busy attending to the other children. This experience made Matt quite distrustful of others, and he vowed to never ask for help again. Though that too changed when he met a man named Stick, who knew about his abilities and began training them how to properly use them, as well how to control his anger and martial arts. Which lead to intense months of training. Though despite this Matt found himself enjoying his lessons with Stick, and soon came to see him as a second father. That is until one day the man just up and disappeared, Matt not crossing paths with him again until many years later. As such he closed himself off again to most people and poured all of his attentions into his studies, still deciding to honor his father's words. This lead him into getting into Columbia Law School, where he became best friends with his roommate Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, the two eventually promising to start a law firm together once they graduated.

It was also in college Matt first crossed path with the beautiful and deadly Elektra Natchios. The two of them becoming instantly enamored with each other. That is until one night Elektra tried to get Matt to kill the man who murdered his father, Roscoe Sweeney, and when he couldn't do so she disappeared from his life that night, the two not seeing each other again until over a decade later. This event left Matt once again heartbroken, and because of it he was almost expelled from school. Though me managed to pull himself together and graduate, becoming a certified lawyer. A few days after which he returned to Hell's Kitchen, specifically his father's old gym to commemorate the occasion. But when he did he found a young girl being kidnapped by people working for the Kingpin. Faced with this Matt sprung into action, beating down the would-be kidnappers and saving the girl. After which he decided to not only protect the innocent as a lawyer but also with his extraordinary abilities. Thus after fashioning a costume he took to the streets, and soon was known as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen aka the hero Daredevil.

Fighting The Kingpin[]

Early in his vigilante days Matt started out fighting against the petty criminals in his neighborhood. But eventually he moved onto the organized crime element and started attacking the local gangs. In the process he learned of a mysterious and powerful underworld figure who was controlling them all known simply as Kingpin. Matt eventually discovering the figures true identity as none other than local powerful business mogul Wilson Fisk. Whom he swore to take down.

Making Allies[]

In his quest to take down Fisk, and protect the people of Hell's Kitchen, and New York City in general, Matt, despite wishing not to make allies, inadvertently began doing just that. The first of which came in the form of local nurse Claire Temple, followed then by local NYPD sergeant Brett Mahoney, and local reporter Benjamin Urich. Matt also seemingly made allies with other vigilantes such as Spiderman, who was also an enemy of Fisk and his criminal empire, and the more violent anti-hero Punisher. He also ended up founding a group known as the Defenders, which were composed of other local heroes just like himself, who had reluctantly found himself working with in one manner or another over the years since he began his superhero career. Whom Matt greatly valued. Even if he would never admit it.

Facing The Hand[]

But despite all he had accomplished in regards to his superheroics Matt's personal life was seemingly falling apart around him. As he focused morr on being Daredevil more than Matt Murdock, which began in earnest during the trial of the Punisher, Frank Castle, whom Nelson & Murdock had chosen to represent in early 2008. Due to the fact of not only the return of his master Stick, and his college love interest Elektra into his life, but also due to why the pair returned in the first place. Which was too seek Matt's help in fighting the age-old organization known as the Hand. Which through their connection with Wilson Fisk and his criminal empire had allowed them to establish themselves firmly in New York City. Faced with this fact Matt teamed up with Stick and Elektra to deal with them. Only in the end for the Hand to reveal that Elektra was their new Black Sky, whom Matt had helped Stick deal with previously, and for her to die by their hands when she betrayed them to save Matt, whom she revealed she still loved with her dying breath.

The Devil No More[]

Faced with Elektra loss and sacrifice, as well as the dissolution of his law firm Nelson & Murdock, Matt realized being Daredevil had brought him nothing but more pain and loss. Despite the people of Hell's Kitchen coming to see him as a hero after his years of being active. Even so that did not stop Matt from hanging up his costume and quitting his superhero activities, instead choosing to focus on his life as Matthew Murdock and got back to being a true lawyer and taking on cases. As well as starting a romantic relationship with his law firms former secretary Karen Page. Whom he finally decided to reveal the fact he was Daredevil too, despite his fear of Page"s rejection of him. But none of that occurred and she accepted Matt for who he was and what he had done. Matt greatly appreciating Karen for her understanding.

By 2010 Matt had completely turned his once breaking civilian life around, and even reconnected with Foggy. Having not suited up as Daredevil in over a year.

But that all changed on the day the Asgardian prince Loki summoned the Chitauri to Earth in New York City in spring the same year. When this occurred Matt didn't hesitate to suit up and join the fight to defend the helpless. Leading him to reconnect with his fellow Defenders as they, alongside many other heroes, defended the people and city of New York from the extraterrestrial invaders, until the invasion came to an end due to individuals the world-wide peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D. had recruited. Which in the aftermath of the invasion formed the superhero team known as the Avengers. Meanwhile for Matt, who saw how the people of Hall's Kitchen now looked up to him, and with encouragement from both Foggy and Karen, resumed the mantle of Dated evil and not only returned to defending the residence of Hall's Kitchen, but also rejoined his fellow Defenders in protecting all New Yorkers.

Battle of Midland Circle[]

After several years of resuming his superhero identity, and becoming leader of the Defenders, Matt and his fellow allies found themselves facing their greatest challenge since the Battle of New York, when the leaders of the Hand, known as the Five Fingers, all arrive in New York, and kidnapped Matt's fellow teammate Daniel Rand, in order to use him in their plan to obtain the key ingredient in their Ressurection & Immortality Elixir, dragon bones, frrom underneath New York City. Which Matt and his allies learn would destroy the entire city. As well as all the peoppe who live there.

Though the biggest shock for Matt came is when he discovered the hand had revived his deceased ex-lover Elektra to once again act as their Black Sky. From his own mentor Stick, who in his quest to stop the Hand and the Five Fingers attempted to kill Danny, only for Matt and the other Defenders to stop him. Resulting in Stick death.

But Matt had no time to grieve for his old mentor/father figure as he and the Defenders immediately sprung in action and headed for Midland Circle, where they began engaging the hand in battle, who were now led by Elektra, in their facilities underneath the Circle. Where Matt, through perseverance and hope, managed to reach Elektra. Who turned on the Hand at the last moment and aided Matt and his allies in defeating them and destroying their Midland Circle facility. However in its ensuing destruction Matt and Elektra were separated once more. With Mart almost being buried by rubble. Until he was saved at the last second by his fellow Defender Luke Cage, who carried him to safety. Leaving Matt to assume he had lost Elektra all over again. Not knowing the truth again until months later. Until then Matt would have other things to worry about, such as the beginning of the Ultimate Alliance War.

Amidst the chaos of the war Matt and his fellow Defenders found themselves fencing off the forces of the war progenitors in New York, the fearsome and powerful Cabal. Specifically in regards to the Kingpin and his criminal empire. Who frustrated with Daredevil and his allies interference dispatched the fearsome assassin, and long-time enemy of Matt's, Bullseye, to assassinate them. Only for Bullseye to repeatedly fail. As such the assassin changed tactics and went after the people the Defender cared about, leading to the death of Matt fiance Karen Page. Which combined with the numerous battles of the Ultimate Alliance War lead Matt to destroying his Daredevil costume after the war ended in the Spring of 2016, ready to permanently retire for good this time.

Matt suits up as Daredevil once more.

His costume destroyed Matt decided to use his lawyer skills to do some good. As such together with Foggy he restarted Nelson & Murdock and took on several high profile cases at once. Which included the case of a young man & vigilante, from Chinatown, named Samuel Chung. Who through investigation Matt and Foggy discovered was combating a large human smuggling operation, masquerading under the guise of an organization known as the Church of the Sheltering Hands. Whom Matt and Foggy eventually linked to a local up and coming Chinatown crime boss known as Tenfingers. Whom Matt learned was connected to the Hand, after Elektra suddenly reappeared one day and explained to him not only that the Hand was still very much around, but was once again growing in strength, thanks to its new leadership under the ruthless Hydra leader known as Gorgon.

Upon learning this, as well as about Fisk involvement with the Cabal during the Alliance War, of which the man had not been held even the slightest bit accountable for, Matt came to realize his work as Daredevil was not done. So with that he contacted his occasional ally Melvin Potter and asked him to create a new suit for him. Leading Matt to become the Devil on red once again.
