Martin Blank began his career as the superhero friend of Spider-Man known as Gigantopithecus. He even

wanted to be his partner, but Spider-Man told him that he was not good at acting in groups and that unfortunately he could not accept Martin as a partner due to the danger this would expose him. Tired of being seen as a mutant freak, Martin could no longer endure the ridicule of being despised for everything and everyone. He then caught the attention of Mister Sinister, who increased the powers of Gigantopithecus with a xenogenetic compound that unlocked Martin Blank's latent mutagenic potential, also giving him a great animal rage. Gigantopithecus attacked Spider Man but Peter Parker managed to convince him that he only refused him as a partner because the superhero life was a life full of suffering and misfortune and he wanted to spare Martin from it. Ashamed of having almost killed Spider-Man, Martin disappeared from view.

Later, Gigantopithecus sought to help Spider-Man, trying to prove that he could be a good superhero. He was caught in the middle of a fight with Spider-Man and Venom. Eventually, Gigantopithecus helped Spider-Man by knocking out Venom. Later, Gigantopithecus joined other superheroes in the group Spider Man and his Astonishing Friends, joining Puma, Kodiak, Firestar, Iceman, Cloak and Dagger. This team assisted Spider Man against the villainous serial killer carrying an alien Symbiont Carnage and participated in many missions together under the leadership of Spider Man. Later, Gigantopithecus and Kodiak teamed up as a duo of crime-fighting superheroes, helping Spider-Man to stop the villainous Sabretooth.

Imagined and looking almost like a normal human, Gigantopithecus married a young blind regenerated former criminal, Princess Python, that despite Martin Blank's bestial appearance she saw great inner beauty in his heart and loved him for what he was not for what he "looked like" and he participated regularly with the teacher in the Avengers Academy meetings.

Gigantopithecus offered to do scientific experiments at State University. He met Dr. Fiona Fitzhugh, an independent research specialist who subjected Gigantopithecus to a battery of tests to develop a better understanding of its mutation. An accident in the laboratory opened a dimensional fissure, and Fitzhugh and he were transported to a world dominated by monkeys. This world was very much like Earth and included simian counterparts to well-known heroes, like the Avengers , the Defenders and the Fantastic Four.

Hunted

In an unknown moment, Gigantopithecus returned to Earth and maintained a relatively normal life until he was one of many animal-themed characters captured by Taskmaster and Black Ant for Kraven, the hunter's great Zoo. He was approached by the Vulture and convinced him to not ally himself with Spider-Man would end up sending him and all the bestials considered outlaw to jail afterwards. However, the Vulture turned against the Gigantopithecus, dumping him to be attacked by the Hunter-Bots. This motivated Gigantopithecus to fight alongside the bestial superheroes captured by Kraven. He watched when Kodiak sent Kraven into exile in Savage Land.

However, at the end of the conflict, the villain Vulture taking one of the Hunter-Bots' weapons fired at Spider Man, who without thinking twice Gigantopithecus jumped in front and received the deadly shot that would have killed Peter Parker by being mortally wounded and only escaped with his life because running out of time Spider Man managed to bring Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four that replicated the xenogenetic compound that had empowered him to saves he from death. Later Gigantopithecus reflected that he was happy with the fact that Spider-Man was with him all the time in his life because in fact Peter Parker was the one who made his existence be worth.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Primitive Primate Physiology: He has a Gigantopithecus-like appearance. He has superhuman strength, speed, agility, dexterity, reflexes, coordination, balance, and endurance. His strength is enough to defeat Spider-Man and he’s dexterous enough to jump and climb the walls of skyscrapers with no effort at all. For instance, he could jump out from a helicopter, catch on to a wall, jump away at Spider-Man and knock him down. When he first appeared he had a very human appearance and wore a Gigantopithecus  suit, but later on, he gained a more primitive primate-like appearance and now looks like a giant-sized Gigantopithecus .

The Gigantopithecus possesses a variety of superhuman physical abilities as a result of transformation by an ancient prehistoric mutated creature.

The Gigantopithecus possesses superhuman physical strength of an unknown limit. It is known that the Gigantopithecus possesses sufficient strength to go toe-to-toe with the Incredible Hulk.

Aside from its vast strength, the tissues of the Gigantopithecus's body are considerably stronger than those of a human being, providing it with superhuman durability. A Gigantopithecus's body can resist high caliber machine gun rounds without sustaining injury. If a Gigantopithecus is injured, it can recover from the physical trauma with tremendous speed and efficiency, giving rise to the quote "strike him down and he sure would rise again". The dense fur covering the Gigantopithecus's body grants it immunity to the harsh conditions of the extreme cold weather common in the areas in which the Gigantopithecus has appeared. The Gigantopithecus can be rendered unconscious by sufficient force, such as severe physical injury and trauma, but it has even been able to regenerate from being completely.

Despite the Gigantopithecus's great size, it can run at speeds greater than that of an Olympic level athlete. The enhanced musculature of the Gigantopithecus generates less lactic acid than the muscles of a human being, granting it superhuman levels of stamina.

The Gigantopithecus's fingers and toes are tipped with razor sharp, retractable claws and fangs in your mouth that are capable of piercing even the Hulk's skin, a feat usually reserved for adamantium, due to a combination of the toughness of the claws and fangs and the Gigantopithecus's massive physical strength.
