Early Years[]
Marc Spector (born May, 1978) was the first child and first son born to Elias Spector and his wife Wendy, the former of whom is a rabbi who as a child managed to escape Nazi persecution and flee to the United States after Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia.
Growing up Marc lived on the poor side of the city, where his family, especially his father was often a target for discrimination. Which angered the young man greatly. The same was true when he and his younger brother Randall were also targeted by bullies at school. Though every time this happened Marc beat them down, and protected his brother. Whom he had a very close relationship with. So it made Marc feel extremely guilty and ashamed when one day during a family barbecue he and his brother went to explore a cave near their home, and Marc ignored Randalls' warning about exploring it when it was filling up with water due to heavy rainfall. This in turn led to an extremely dangerous situation where although Marc managed to escape his brother Randall was not so lucky, as he drowned and died in the cave, with Marc unable to do anything to save him.
Once his brother died Marc found himself living in a broken home. Where his father Elias threw himself into work, and his mother Wendy became reclusive and even antagonist towards Marc, constantly blaming him for his brothers death. Which only got worse as Wendy turned to substance abuse. Eventually leading her to start physically and emotionally abusing Marc. Whose actions, combined with all the other trauma he had experienced, eventually led Marc to develop dissociative identity disorder as a way to cope with all his pain. Leading him to create the altered personalities Steven Grant and eventually Jake Lockley. To help him deal with the new strenous and antagonistic relationship he had with his mother. Which became so bad Marc left home as soon as he turned eighteen and signed up for the military. Despite his fathers pleas for him to stay. For Marc could take the abuse no longer.
