Lorna was born on the island of Genosha to Magneto and his second wife, the former governess to his other children, Wanda and Pietro. Though Pietro was mostly indifferent to this change, the already emotionally unstable Wanda was furious. One day, the tension between Wanda and her step-mother boiled over, and the girl unleashed a considerable surge of power, seriously injuring Pietro and her step-mother, and nearly killing the toddler Lorna in the process. It was this final outburst that convinced Magneto to put Wanda away into a mental asylum, and to separate Pietro and Lorna. Pietro was placed in a false foster home in New York, and Lorna was left to be raised by an au pair in Seattle. Lorna had few memories concerning her siblings, and was raised completely oblivious that her father and the terrorist Magneto were the same person.
A year after Mutants were revealed to the public, twelve year-old Lorna decided this was the ideal time to find her half-siblings. She ran away from home, and found her way to Bayville. Though Pietro was dismissive of the preteen at first, he let his half-sister to rest in the Brotherhood House once Lorna revealed who she was. As Pietro explained the situation to Wanda and the Brotherhood, Lorna called her au pair, Klara, to let her know she was alright.
