Li Mei is the last descendent of The Mandarin, in a long line of family members. Her father was hoping to get a son to continue the lineage, instead he got a daughter. He was disappointed in her, as he didn't believe a woman could handle the legacy of The Mandarin.
While her father didn't live to see it, she eventually proved him wrong when she became the leader of the Ten Rings upon donning her ancestor's Makluan Rings of Power, allowing her to control Fin Fang Fuu and her dragon sisters. Thus earning the title of the Mandarin.
She later came into conflict with weapons manufacturer, Antoinette Stark, aka Iron Maiden.

- Based on the character from the animated film The Invincible Iron Man. While she's also the descendant of the Mandarin, she's also the female version of the character.
- She has a habit of beheading any of her men who brings up her gender as a negativity or a hinder to the Ten Rings, similar to O-Ren Ishi from Kill Bill.
