History

Quote1 Don't call me Star-Lady. It's demeaning. Quote2
-- Shadow-Lord

Kitty Pryde was recruited onto the X-Men when she was 16-years-old, and was one of the first students to graduate from the Xavier Institute in only three years. She quickly became a popular hero and one of the most socially accessible members of the X-Men.

All of that changed, however, when Thanos claimed the Infinity Stones for himself and took over the galaxy. Having used the power of the Stones to kill several of Kitty's teammates, as well as depower half the mutant race as punishment, she was lucky to find herself with powers still intact.

She survived the initial onslaught of the superheroes, and went on to join a small cadre of other heroes leaving Earth, including Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman, as well as her old teammate, Stormrider, and the Asgardian Angela. They would go on to rendezvous with Groot on the Milano, where they were officially indoctrinated as the new Guardians of the Galaxy.

Adopting the alias of Shadow-Lord to honor the fallen Star-Lord, Kitty was eventually elected team leader due to her tactical mind and battle prowess.

Trivia

  • Kitty has been taking flying lessons from Groot to learn how to better pilot the Milano in the style of an ace flyer, such as the passed on Peter Quill or Rocket Raccoon. She had always wanted to fly the X-Jet in such a manner, but was strictly forbidden to do so by Professor X.
