History

Quote1 Here's a headline for you; Spider-Man: Threat or Menace?! You like it? I came up with it myself. Quote2
-- J. Jonah Jameson

As the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson has always been vehemently dedicated to the truth. That is why, when masked vigilantes and superheroes started becoming a normality, he took personal offense to it. His son was a firefighter and an astronaut, and he held firm to his belief that real heroes didn't hide behind masks.

He took a particular issue with Spider-Man, who seemed to attract the most chaos and destruction. Unknowingly, Jameson ended up giving Spider-Man a job by hiring his alter ego, Peter Parker, as a photographer. With the rise of digital media, Jonah decided it was time for the Bugle to step up their game.

He began his own webcast titled "Just the Facts with J. Jonah Jameson", which was broadcast on the Daily Bugle website and often featured on the news. He used this platform to slander heroes like Spider-Man and the Avengers, constantly blaming them for the damage they do to society. He eventually became desperate enough to hire a private eye named Mac Gargan to discover Spider-Man's secret identity.

However, Jameson was conned by Gargan, who convinced him to pay for an experimental operation that would turn him into a capable killer called the Scorpion. Jameson has since publicly admitted his fault in creating the Scorpion, but then used that to spin how he takes responsibility for his own actions, unlike the so-called heroes he preaches against.
