Changes: James Sanders (Earth-61615)

James Sanders was a brilliant chemist at the Hudson Pharmaceutical Company of West Caldwell, New Jersey. He eventually became tired of his job due to his rival co-worker always had kept stealing all of his works and ideas at the company. He was eventually then approached by a representative of an unknown organization claiming to be an intelligence agency, who offered him a job that would make his knowledge, skills, and intelligence and his ideas become very useful for the agency. James later accepted his offer and resigns at his current job without telling the real reason of his leave, making one of his observant co-workers to become very suspicious and concerned of why he had left the company.

Big Mistake

For the next few months, James became a much beloved and a productive member of this new agency he was now been working for. On the way of being promoted as a high-ranking chemist in his team, James unfortunately had gained several individuals who started becoming envious with most of his works, along the way, most notably most of his new co-workers, and even his own assigned superior, Tom Farrell, who eventually decided to ruin James' career, by having him get humiliated and having him kicked out of the team. Unaware about their hate, along with their selfish and egotistical schemes against him, James continued his progress into becoming a promoted high-ranking chemist, while his most hated colleagues and superior plans to take him out of the research team through unrevealed means.

Later on, while James was still working on his experiment based on recreating another version of the Super-Soldier Serum using external sources of energy, such as solar radiation and electromagnetic fields, when his superior Tom Farrell surprised him with a false document, pretending to give him the promotion towards becoming a high-ranking chemist on the team by explaining to James that the rest of the superiors wanted him to get promoted as early as possible. That part was later revealed to be true, however, what James didn't know was that he was signing another unrelated document, secretly revealing to be an agreement contract upon volunteering to their research team's own classified experiment, the very special experiment that James had come up once before and had kept on persevering to work on for almost several months by then.

After accidentally finding out the dark secret that has been trying to be kept from him once by his own co-workers, James was injected with a lethal dosage of sedative, unconsciously subjecting him to surgery, steroid treatments, and other experimental treatments supervised by Farrell himself, in which the result had turned Sanders to become the first genetically-enhanced, speed-based mutate, or simply according to Farrell, the first known artificial speedster since the High Evolutionary's significant work on the Pietro Maximoff, which subsequently turned him into Quicksilver.

Merciless Massacre

While the latter might seemingly have any side effects on him when he first had manifested his special abilities, the psychological effects of the experiment on James, on the other hand, had only made his once-decent personality even worse, momentarily turning Sanders into an unstable, ruthless, ravenous, and enraging killing machine that was so unstoppable he was able to break out of his apparently power-dampening cell with an instant ease after the entire facility's power had shut down for an unknown reason, right before he had the chance to slaughter most of inside their facility unharmed, with the exception of his most mutually hated superior, Farrell, since he and a few of his fellow subordinates had miraculously gotten out of the facility, escaping the havoc itself that was being caused by Sanders at that night.

Ever since that had occurred, Sanders starts to experience having a dual personality whenever he gets consumed by anger and other several factors (e.g. stress, anxiety, trauma, and countless more), all because of the exact incident that traumatized him his whole life. In the aftermath of Sander's impulsive massacre, he turns back into his normal self only to suddenly get confused after seeing the bloodshed and breaks down as he started to realize that what he had done was out of his character and personality, claiming that we wouldn't have done such a thing if he was himself, not even to those whom he hate the most.

Thunderbolts

While he was breaking down in tears for the bloodthirsty monster that he has unknowingly and unwillingly turned into, he was abruptly but calmly approached by a group of extreme vigilantes, led by a mysterious man who only introduced himself to Sanders as Zemo, who then claimed that he and his team would help deal with his tormenting situation by embracing who he truly is, using his newly-gained powers. Desperate to escape the very place that was hell for him for the past year, Sanders came with the Thunderbolts for the sake of recovering from what he's done, where they had taken him to live in their headquarters as their newly-recruited member, or as the Thunderbolt Songbird preferred calling him their "new family member."

The Speed Demon

Unbeknownst to Sanders himself, he was only losing control of his emotions and his original identity as Zemo continues manipulating him for his and for the entire team's ambitious goals whenever they're on a mission against the supposedly abusive wrongdoings of the government and the authorities. However, despite having some second thoughts at first for trusting Zemo and the Thunderbolts, James then started believing in the vigilantes' cause, and eventually, he became their "chemist," helping the team create that would gradually enhance the members' powers, abilities, equipment, and even their arsenals, each time during their newer missions. As James' time as a Thunderbolt evolves time after time, his dual personality/vigilante alter-ego had started naming himself as the infamous and deadly outlaw, now known as the Speed Demon.

Finding Treatment

Although he was still only being used by Zemo as one of the team's most notorious and dangerous guard dog and their team chemist even since they've escape custody from the authorities, even Sanders has his own secrets that he still keeps up on his sleeves, though it was only later revealed to be his ongoing personal goal to find a cure, a treatment for both his dual personality, and possibly even for his speed-based powers since according to him was the actually main cause that created his psychopathic split identity, the single worst dilemma that he has struggled with in the first place, since he had formerly worked at the diabolical agency that was hell to him, having to work there for almost a year. Sanders' progress on the cure continues to improve at some time later on, but has decided to stop for a while at the moment, due to him staying meticulously careful that the rest of his teammates or even his own split identity, the Speed Demon himself, would find out about his secret work.

The Race of New York City

During one of their anti-government missions trying to bomb the entirety of Empire State University during one of its batch's graduation day, the Thunderbolts, except for Zemo who was not around at the time, had came into encountering the heroic team of New York's street heroes that would be known in the near future as the Defenders, who suddenly shows up at the building of the academy to foil their plans of bombing the whole place down, where the Speed Demon had gotten the attention of the honorary member Quicksilver, who was still in his days as a young adult. The two speedsters then clashed, along with the rest of the Thunderbolts and the Defenders, into a brief but brutal battle.

In the last moments of the battle, the heroes had proven their victory against the the Thunderbolts, leaving for the Speed Demon to be only member to finish the team's mission by detonating all the implanted explosives using the detonator, which has been secretly handed to him by the second his teammate Fixer was subdued by the Daredevil. The Speed Demon then arrogantly challenges Quicksilver to a race across New York City, in which the winner would take the possession of the detonator, much to the heroic speedster's dismay, though the latter had no other choice but to comply, otherwise the rogue speedster would have triggered the detonator.

During the race, Speed Demon had easily outran, seemingly giving the heroes a little probability of hope in saving the day, only to slowly discover that a speed mirage has been all those time they were racing at speeds faster than the speed of sound, and the real Quicksilver had only shown up right at the moment when the Speed Demon realizes it, where the former ran directly straightly towards with his right fist strongly closed aiming at the evil speedster, giving the Speed Demon a hard to the face, instantly knocking him out as Quicksilver carefully destroys the detonator, subsequently reverting his identity back to Sanders.

Prison Escapade

In the wake of the Thunderbolts' humiliating defeat at the hands of the Defenders, the anti-villain vigilantes were taken into custody at Blackthorne Prison, where Sanders was also being treated through psychiatric evaluation under the efforts of Dr. Peter Spalding, progressively helping him to finally deal with his ruthless dissociative identity, and try to get rid of him once and for all. However, despite of all their most sincere efforts which were actually proven to be effective on Sanders, the Speed Demon had been unleashed once again when Zemo breaks into the prison facility and was also able to effortless convince Sanders that the Speed Demon needs him and the entire team in order for the cause of the Thunderbolts to live on.

As a result of Zemo's devious skill at manipulating others at his will any time he wants to, the reemerged Speed Demon took over Sanders once more in the middle of their prison escape, where the latter had caused another killing spree throughout the prison thanks to his speed, brutally and carelessly killing those who tries to attempted to prevent him and his teammates from escaping, right before the team had successfully escaped the facility, without any trace from the authorities to where they've gone next.

Powers

Speed Physiology: Speed Demon gained the ability to run at extremely high speeds due to Hydra's experiments with the same unknown type of multidimensional energy force that granted Quicksilver's powers of supersonic speed. Like Quicksilver, This unknown force, which would be later revealed as the mysterious Power Primordial, also seems to serve as the source to of all his speed and powers. Sander's body is adapted towards the rigors of high-speed running. His cardiovascular, respiratory, and central nervous systems are many times more efficient than those of a normal human being, superhuman, or even those of a mutant, such as Captain America and Wolverine. The only people who were able to rival his speed was Quicksilver and Nikolaos of Myra, making them one of the most fastest beings in the universe.
