People were wondering why I was chosen to lead the Avengers. Tony, Steve, and Carol have all led the team before. But this isn't a superhero operation, this is a war. And what better way to end a war, than with a War Machine!

History
James Rhodes seemingly had a similar history as his Earth-616 counterpart. When Tony Stark went to rehab, he entrusted Rhodey with operating as Iron Man during his leave of absence. When he returned, he created a new armor for Rhodes, who became known as War Machine.

James Rhodes as Iron Man
After Norman Osborn was imprisoned, the government appointed James as the new Iron Patriot. During this time, he started dating fellow Air Force veteran Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel. This didn't last long; however, as he left the role and returned to being War Machine. He was later succeeded by Toni Ho.
War Machine was among those teleported to Reality: MS-0815 through a rift. He assembled the other displaced heroes into the Avengers Alliance to oppose the reality's tyrannical ruler: God Emperor Doom.
