James' history diverged from his Maximus Multiverse mainstream counterpart, up until the fact that he was chosen by Mephistopheles to be the second Ghost Rider. A portal opened to his world and the Tyrannists had a mission to kill the Ghost Rider of this world. The mission did not go very well, as one of the Tyrannists' members, Carnage had been burned alive by James. He was chosen by the One Above All to join Team Maximus.
