The childhood friend of Steve Rogers, James Buccahan “Bucky” Barnes joined the US Army shortly before his friend to fight in WWII. During the war, he was presumed dead. But in reality, he was alive and brainwashed by enemy soldiers, as well as missing an arm. Eventually, he was made into an assassin known as the Winter Soldier. After his brainwashing was broken, Barnes would become a superhero to atone, becoming a member of teams such as the Avengers and Thunderbolts.
