History

Hormigants first made themselves known on the world stage when members of the warrior caste kidnapped Dr. Henry Pym on orders of their queen, alongside other Earth-based scientists, to find a solution for their starving population that threatened to revolt against her. Unknown to the queen, Pym was the superheroic Ant-Man, and he was able to adjust the frequency of his helmet to directly communicate with the alien species. He managed to calm the working caste, after which the Hormigants unified in support of their queen, sending the Terran scientists home.

This did not solve their food problems, however, and soon the queen was forced to take more extreme measures. Her caste of warrior ants massacred a more intelligent colony looking for solutions, and instead found incredible technology. She used this technology to cause Synania to grow into the Macroverse, disrupting the Earth's orbit and causing some spacial anomalies which in turn caused the planets to shift and the nature of the Tether to draw inhabitants of both worlds to switch places. This is how Spider-Man and one of the no-name criminals he was apprehending were transported to Synania. Together, Spidey and the crook fought off the warrior caste of Hormigants, though things took a bit of a turn when one of their ray guns burned a hole in Spidey's boot, which produced a visible flame due to some grasses on the sole. Having not realized the planet could create fire, the queen abandoned the mission, and Synania shrunk back to its original size, returning Spidey and the crook to their original circumstances. Unfortunately, this would be the end of (semi-)civilized Hormigant culture, as Synania descended into chaos following such massive changes.

When they were seen again, the Hormigants were serving as mercenaries and henchmen in massive numbers in exchange for provisions and weapons. Psycho-Man offered them both by arming them with customizable weapons in exchange for their consuming space junk around his homeworld. Because this was an exceptionally beneficial relationship for both parties, they were more than willing to engage with Psycho-Man's recurring foes, the Fantastic Four, and their situational allies the Micronauts. The Hormigants would battle the Micronauts again when attempting to sabotage the F4's shrinking technology in the Baxter Building, and would again be defeated by outside interference, this time from Franklin Richards, who drowned them with a fire extinguisher's foam.

Psycho-Man would lend the Hormigants to Annihilus as foot soldiers for his Annihilation Wave. Whether they all survived the battle, and what became of them afterwards, is as of yet unknown.
