Taking care of his father

Henry Peter Gyrich grew in the fear of contracting Alzheimer disease like his father did.

He took a year's leave to care for father, rather than letting strangers deal with him, strangers that he couldn't even afford.

Gyrich stayed with him till the end, taking care of him, washing him, and his last words to his son were "Who in heck are you?".

National Security Council

He was appointed by the National Security Council to investigate unofficial reports of irregularities in the operations of superpowered beings like the Avengers after the controversies of their actions that rose after the Age of Ultron.

He was part of the Symposium on Alien Contagion Delegates together with Glenn Talbot and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Phil Coulson, and was pleased when the former was believed to be the mole due to his organization's previous actions.
