History

Helmut Zemo was a highly skilled and train assassin who ran a covert kill squad out of his home nation of Sokovia. While there, he met and fell in love with a woman named Marisa, with whom he eventually had a son. Zemo's squad, Eco Scorpion, was often hired by Hydra, and Zemo himself was held in high esteem by Baron Strucker.
Things changed when the Avengers came to Sokovia to battle Ultron. In the chaos, Zemo was separated from his family and his home was destroyed. After the battle was over, he found the bodies of his wife and son, as well as his father. In that moment he swore revenge against the Avengers.
He then struck out on his own, donning a purple mask to spread fear across the world as a mysterious terrorist, hoping that he would attract the attention of the Avengers. However, Hydra took notice of him first. Strucker recognized his style and offered Zemo a greater chance at revenge. Zemo was reluctant to abandon his plan, but eventually agreed.
He quickly worked his way up the ranks and was promoted to one of Hydra's heads, working alongside Strucker as equals. He then went on to recruit Viper as his right hand, and together the two of them started putting together a strike team capable of taking on the Avengers. Zemo finally felt closer than ever to his plan of getting revenge by any means necessary, and he didn't care who he had to betray to accomplish it, so long as he could hold the dead bodies of Captain America and Tony Starl in his arms.
