Plot[]

The Guardians of the Galaxy have been aching for some action for months now. Things get a little complicated, however, when they hear about the mutant hero from Earth, Jean Grey, devouring a planet. Lines are drawn between the Guardians and their allies on Earth as the X-Men are put on trial by the Shi'ar Empire.

Trivia[]

  • Tessa Thompson voices Gamora in this film. She is known to Marvel fans as Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder.
  • This films splices the original Trial of the Phoenix with the retelling including the past Jean Grey and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The story, however, implements the Guardians into the original Dark Phoenix Saga.
  • Steven Blum, Yuri Lowenthal, Danielle Nicolet, Liam O'Brien, and Nolan North all reprises their roles from Wolverine and the X-Men as Wolverine, Iceman, Storm, Angel, and Colossus, respectively.
  • One of the opening scenes features a Heroes for Hire billboard including Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Tony Stark. This raises questions regarding the animated movies possibly taking place in the same universe, as this can be considered as a reference to Heroes for Hire, Inc. v Tony Stark.
  • At one point in the film, Angela mentions her brother, Thor, though he does not physically appear.
  • This is the second Disney+ film featuring the X-Men, the first being X-Men: Out of Time. The two incarnations are heavily implied to be separate versions, which is another canon question about any potential connections between the films.
  • Over the course of this film, Cyclops, Wolverine, Beast, and Angel all confess to have been in love with Jean Grey. This is excluding Iceman and Colossus as the only male X-Men members, who have both been portrayed as homosexual in various interpretations.
  • Groot's signature catch phrase I am Groot is only uttered throughout the film five times.
