History[]

Donald Pierce and his fellow Reavers led an attack on the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, in which Pierce aimed primarily at the young students who comprised the Hellions and New X-Men, with the stated goal to kill the X-Men's spirit by destroying future generations of the Children of the Atom. Their attack led to heavy casualties among both the Hellions and the New X-Men (including Icarus, Elixir, Surge, and Wolf Cub from the New X-Men, and Hellion, Rockslide and Mercury of the new Hellions). The massacre only ended when, in a burst of bestial fury, White Lioness completely destroyed Donald Pierce's cyborg body, and the remainder of the Reavers escaped, knowing that their plan had failed. Emma Frost, however, told Professor X that "simply giving up on making a new team of juvenile mutants" for fear of their lives being in danger was not the way out, and that giving up on creating a group of teenage mutants inheriting the X-Men's legacy would be belittling the sacrifice of the students who died defending this dream, and so she managed to persuade Charles to reopen the Massachusetts Academy. Here, he would bring together the survivors of the New X-Men and the Hellions, forming Generation X under the tutelage of Lady Xorn. United again in a team that brings together the best of both worlds, Generation X members seek more than merely "surviving the future," they seek to BE the future.
