Early Life
Tony Stark was born as Rogiotto Antonio Giuseppe Magnano in Catania, Sicily, Italy to aspiring fashion designer, Maria Magnano and Santino Lancelotti, son of Bruno Lancelotti who is the Don of the Lancelotti crime family. Maria was left alone by Santino who told her he had no intention of being a father and demanded her to get an abortion in which she refused. She was forced to tell her family about her pregnancy but despite the blow, her family helped her give birth to Tony and when he was only 3 months old where Maria meets Howard Stark while he was staying and sparks flew, resulting in the two dating each other and Howard confessing his love to Maria. After Tony's 3rd birthday, Maria moves to New York City and elopes with Howard, changing her last name to Stark and legally changed Tony's name to Antonio Edward Stark, which made him fit into the Stark family.
At the tender age of 5 years old, Tony began to develop an enhanced intelligence that brought Howard's attention, watching the young genius put together different gadgets with old and used electronics. His genius was so great that his teachers in his grade school told Howard and Maria that his IQ was at a college level. And at the tender age of 11, he skipped junior high and high school, graduating high school at the tender age of 14 years old. Howard was so impressed, he began a plan to pass his company to him on his 21st birthday, picturing that Tony will change the future of technology and help other countries become the brightest in the future.
Tony enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he expanded his genius, being given the tools to create gadgets that were newly advanced rather than just using old and broken electronics. At the same time, he looked up to Captain America who, unfortunately, died after crash-landing an aircraft into the Atlantic ocean and dreamed of becoming a superhero, resulting in him creating his first-ever Iron Man suit design which he showed Howard who was busy at the time but the man would sneak in Tony's sketchbook to see the design while the younger Stark is asleep and his work would make him even prouder than he was when he discovered his intellect talent.
An Un-Family Reunion
But as Tony continued to thrive at MIT and his relationship with his mother and stepfather being at its highest, things started crashing to a halt where he had discovered that his biological father, Santino has shown up to America to reclaim him and Maria. At first glance, Tony felt a chill go through his spine for the man looked very dark. However, Maria stood up and told Santino that she is happily married to Howard and he had lost his chance in starting a family with her. This angered Santino and was going to confront her, but Tony shielded his mother, telling the mobster to leave Maria alone. It wasn't until Howard stepped into the confrontation and demanded Santino to leave their home, which the man comprehended and did what he said. Despite successfully stand up to his birth father, Tony collapsed, trembling with fear and Howard gave him the biggest hug he could give him, telling him that it was going to be alright.
However, as the years went by, Tony would continue to be encountered by Santino and he would try his best to ignore him because he remembered Maria telling him that Santino not wanting to be a father and Howard stepping up to take care of him. At one time, Santino showed up in class and he firmly told him that he's wasn't his father, citing Howard as the man he sees as his father. This angered Santino and he harshly grabs him by the shirt, slamming against the wall. The mobster gave him the warning to watch his mouth and that he would kill him and his mother for rejecting him. Tony swallowed his fear and insists that he isn't afraid of him anymore and the man dropped him before the security of MIT showed up and departs from the campus. Hearing of what had happened with Tony, Howard and Maria filed a restraining order against Santino, forbidding him from coming near the family.
The Death of Howard & Maria Stark
After graduating from MIT, Tony ends up receiving the tragic news he dreaded to hear. Howard and Maria were involved in a shooting where they were shot multiple times by a group of men and the perpetrator behind it was none other than his birth father, Santino. At the time of the funeral, Tony was given an early birthday card written by Howard which he said that he had been very proud by how he was using his gift to create the future of technology and he was going to pass his company on to him on his 21st birthday. This made Tony break down in tears, showing that Howard had loved him deeply and he and his mother were taken away from him by a man whose heart was filled with nothing but hate and jealously. On his 21st birthday, Tony inherits his father's company, Stark Industries and mold it into a worldwide billion-dollar empire with a range of interests covering virtually all types of contemporary scientific industry, and the leader at the cutting edge of electronics.
Tony become the youngest billionaire inventor and philanthropist in the world and became a well-known celebrity, being featured in lots of magazines and even gotten a share of interviews from different news and entertainment outlets. But aside from the glitz and glamor, he badly suffered from the loss of his parents and fell into a deep depression, leading him to self-indulgence to numb the pain in his heart.
Kidnapped and the Prototype
Antonio "Tony" Stark
Stark Industries became a household name, beating Oscorp Industries in its own game and Tony became a flirtatious playboy, living a carefree lifestyle. One day, he flew to a war-infected Afghanistan to demonstrate a missile called the Jericho. Unbeknownst to him, he was attacked by a group of terrorists who ambushes the convoy and he was critically injured by the attacker's missiles which were revealed to be one of his company's own. After Tony fell unconscious, he was captured by the terrorist group called the Ten Rings, imprisoning him in a cave where he was met by a man from Timbetpal named Ho Yinsen who was also held captive by the Ten Rings. When Tony discovered that he had implanted an electromagnet in his chest to prevent the shrapnel from reaching his heart that could kill him, he formed a friendship with Yinsen for their captivity lasted for days.
With Yinsen's help, Tony ends up creating his first arc reactor to generate the electromagnet in his chest as well as creating his first Iron Armor prototype, their plan to escape from their captors now underway and kept hidden. But when the Ten Rings, discovered their plan, they sent their men to attack the workshop. Yinsen put himself on the front lines while Tony finished powering up his prototype suit. After discovering Yinsen's lifeless body, Tony's heart drowned in sadness which turned to anger. He made his escape and destroyed the Stark weaponry by burning them while burning his captors alive. He takes off from his prison but his suit malfunctioned and he crash-lands, resulting in his suit being destroyed. After being rescued by James Rhodes whom he befriends, Tony returns home to his Stark Mansion in New York City where he began to mourn over the loss of Yinsen which he finds him a comfort due to him losing his own family before his captivity.
Birth of a Superhero
After his rescue, Tony began to make a public announcement with the news outlets that Stark Industries will cease manufacturing weaponry because of what had happened in Afghanistan and he didn't want anyone else to use any more of the weapons for any wrongdoings. At the same time, Tony returned to his workshop where he looked at his sketchbook and spotted a red and gold suit of armor he had designed back when he was younger. Filled with a new streak of motivation, Tony began to build his official Iron Armor after his first prototype was destroyed and lost in the depths of Afghanistan. While following the red/gold design, Tony faced a lot of bumps on the road, his takes the suit ending up in failures from its malfunctions but he repressed his hurdles and succeeded in creating his new armor and soon after, he created different variants of the Iron Armor, each of them having a different ability to make them stand out from one another. Because of what had happened back in the war zone and his fear of them falling into the wrong hands, Tony kept the suits hidden from the public.
Iron Man
At the time, Tony met and fell in love with a young news reporter from WABC-TV named Melissa "Pepper" Potts who ironically did the report of him being held captive by the Ten Rings. On one of their dates, Tony brought his suit with him to take to Alchemax Laboratories have one of his colleagues do some testing on his suit. Tony had booked tickets for him and Pepper to see Guns N' Roses perform but before they could get to their seats, a group of terrorists attacked the venue. It wasn't until Tony realized that the men were armed with bombs as they threaten to blow up the venues which could kill everyone and themselves. Tony takes Pepper into safety and he dons in his armored suit, confronting the men to surrender the weapons. The terrorists refused to stand down and began opening fire at Tony, his armor deflecting the bullets. Armed with weapons and gadgets in his suit, Tony seized the terrorists and saved the guests by throwing the bombs in the air and destroying them with his Unibeam before they detonated. This led Tony to being labeled as a hero and he soon began to realize that he could use the armor to protect and save people from evildoers. This gained him the name Iron Man as news outlets gain the scoop of the incident and people began talking about his heroic risk.
Tony started his career as a superhero but kept his identity a secret as he began to combat criminals and corrupt figures. As time went ahead of him, he began to face superpowered villains of his own such as the Mandarin which he had battled on many occasions. He even faced an old business friend of his father and manager of Stark Industries, Obadiah Stane whom Tony had discovered that he had been secretly trafficking weaponry from the company to different crime organizations as well as his captors -- the Ten Rings who was ordered to kill Stark in order to gain control of the company. Stark fires Stane for his betrayal but the latter retaliates by stealing his arc reactor to power up the lost Iron prototype to become Iron Monger. But with the help of Pepper, who had a spare arc reactor and implanted it in Tony's chest, the billionaire fought against Stane and disabled the Iron Monger suit before saving him from being killed by the main arc reactor located at the Stark Industries building. Stane was arrested and Tony revealed to the crowd that he was Iron Man, gaining a new wave of popularity and Tony proposed to Pepper along the way.
New Fame, New Problems
Tony began to enjoy the new life as a superhero as younger inventors began to idolize him while his company became the sponsors of different companies as well as the NASCAR racing company which he became part of for he had a love for cars and racing. He became a household name like he had when he took over Stark Industries following his parents' murder but he began to develop an ego along the way, his playboy ways beginning to return. Aside from it, more criminals and superpowered villains began to interfere and Tony soon start to realize that being a hero wasn't as easy as he thought it would be. His struggles in being a hero while trying to keep Stark Industries afloat. Every villain he faced was stronger than the ones he faced in his early days as Iron Man and his company fell victim to attacks by the said villains/criminals and theft by rival companies such as Hammer Industries ran by rival Justin Hammer who wanted to be better than Stark. The burden left Tony frustrated and he ended up developing a drinking problem to help him ease the pressure. His habit would put a strain on his relationship with Pepper, leading her to confront him about the drinking.
Their infighting would last for days and Tony would angrily lash out at Pepper in his drunken state as she would try to stop him from drinking while trying to keep his company safe from getting robbed while keeping himself from getting killed. His drinking got so bad to the point that he ended up having affairs with both women and men and it reached the breaking point for Pepper for she ends up leaving the Stark Mansion after catching Tony in bed with a man, making the billionaire realize what he was doing and regret washed across his face. He tried to call Pepper, letting her know that he was sorry, but she refused to answer his calls because of the hurt he inflicted on her.
As he was dwelling in his regret, he discovered that Santino, his birth father has escaped from prison where he was serving his sentence for killing Howard and Maria out of anger and jealousy. Given a special armor with energy-charged whips by Hammer who recruited him following his prison break and he kidnaps Pepper to lure him to Stark Expo. Once Tony angrily confronts Santino, the former mobster releases Pepper and the two engage in an all-out battle where Santino nearly wins the battle after nearly beating Tony. However, Tony gets the upper hand, beating Santino by using his Unibeam to destroy his suit, leaving him critically injured before the police could apprehend him followed by Hammer for his crimes. After the fight, Tony tries to reconcile with Pepper for his transgressions, but the news reporter refused and she breaks off the engagement, giving the heartbroken billionaire the ring he proposed to her with. After Pepper's departure, Tony was approached by Rhodes who watched the entire breakup ensue and offered to take Tony out to help him grieve over his heartbreak, however, Tony turned down the offer and chose to stay away from alcohol for a while.
Moving On
Days after the breakup with Pepper, Tony's now-ended relationship with her surfaced through the newspaper as well as her newly formed relationship with former Marine-turned-officer, Happy Hogan. Even though it hurt to see Pepper move on with someone else, he knew there's nothing he could do to get her back and he had no choice but to move on with his life. His career as Iron Man remained stable as he became fully sober and hasn't touched alcohol since the day he told Rhodes that he didn't want to drink again. As for his armor, it was damaged thanks to Santino's energy whips and he spends most of his days at his workshop, upgrading his suit to make it more powerful, adaptable, and durable. At the same time, Tony began to work as a philanthropist, starting the Howard & Maria Stark Foundation in honor of his deceased parents where it began helping young inventors reach their goals. Stark Industries was now under the protection of Sable International ran by Silver Sable after turning down S.H.I.E.L.D. because of slight bad blood with its director Nick Fury. Tony eventually puts his playboy ways behind him to start afresh and focus on his work as Stark Industries remains one of the richest companies in the world.
Meeting Spider-Man
One day, Tony meets up with the staff and dean of Empire State University after offering them a partnership to provide a grant to help the college become more affordable and provide a better education for future students. During his meeting, he discovers Peter Parker, who was a high school senior at the time, on a college tour with the rest of the 12th graders of Midtown High. Tony looked at Peter for a moment as the latter looked at him and the billionaire began to feel an interest in him. However, things began to flip the opposite direction when Doctor Octopus attacked the campus as well as the Hobgoblin, Electro, Rhino, Vulture and the Scorpion forming the Sinister Six. The Six attacked the campus of ESU until Peter jumped in battle as Spider-Man to fight off the Six. But when he was conquered by the villains, Tony suits up as Iron Man and fights off the villains, defeating them with his newly upgraded armor. After Spider-Man's identity was exposed, Tony wasted no time rushing him to the Stark Mansion.
As he began to medically treat him with the help of his AI J.A.R.V.I.S., Peter wakes up to find himself in Tony's mansion. The webslinger tries to leave the mansion but the billionaire prevented him from leaving due to him treating his injuries and he told him that he had to stay in order for him to recover. Peter reluctantly accepts the stay and after he recovered, his welcome was extended and Tony found himself getting close to the webslinger. He would later get comfortable keeping Peter company and eventually, he began fighting villains alongside him despite Peter's reluctance and he offered him a paid internship at his company once the vigilante graduated high school which was also his plan to get to know him more. When Peter tried to distance himself, Tony discovers that Peter also had gone through unsuccessful relationships and it drew him closer. Realizing that he has developed feelings for the young hero. After spending a lot of time with Peter, Tony admits his feelings to Peter. The latter didn't reciprocate his feelings at first, fearing that he would get hurt, but later on, he comes to his own realization that Tony had nothing but good to him since the day he saved him from the Sinister Six.
The two eventually fall in love with one another and their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship for the very first time since their hearts had been broken. Tony felt his own years of pain being lifted off of him and comes to terms with letting go and being able to move on with Peter.
