History

Jake and his brother were born the same day after parents William and Marcy were involved in a car accident. Jason, a mutant, was delivered first as a deformed baby. William saw this child as an abomination and a monster, resulting in him stabbing the child to death. William then delivered another child and this one was perfect. In Stryker's mind, this baby was a prophet from God who would overrun mutantkind. He was guided in killing his first son to ensure his second would thrive.

Before Marcy woke from unconsciousness, William hid the dead baby's body among the car wreckage, acting as if he were never born. Stryker then devoted his life to his ideal God, one who wanted the mutant infestation wiped from the face of the Earth.

Jake was raised in a relatively normal household, though he was constantly influenced by his father's radical views. At age 10, Jake overheard his parents argue about William's other family. He was curious about it and after searching through his father's old files, Jake found his second family's address. On his own he journeyed to their home which was not to far away from his own. When he met the Bishops, he explained who he was and why he came over. The mother, Angelica, appreciated the boy's courage. Jake took a liking to her daughter, Kayla, and they became close friends seeing each other as often as possible.

The Purifiers

William taught his son to hate mutants, though Jake saw them as average people who were sick and needed help. Anything his father would preach about, Jake would convert into something far more passive. He supported his father in the creation of the Purifiers, though not fully understanding their purpose. After Jake finished high school, William enrolled him into the Purifiers' training group. At first he resisted, not wanting to help in harming mutants, but William persuaded him otherwise.

As William expected, Jake excelled in his training and eventually had his own squad to lead. Stryker was eager to send his son in the real world to hunt down mutants, but again he refused. After seeing how it was to be a Purifier, Jake wanted to take the religious approach like his father. A hesitant William approved, though he informed his son that he would soon be on the frontlines with him.

Jake became the priest to the Purifiers, praying for them before they went out to hunt and helping boost their morale. The group elected Jake to be the spokesman for the Purifiers. His duties would be to persuade people to join and inform the population that what they did was right, that God was on their side. Everything Jake preached, he honestly believed to be true.

Throughout Jake's path on fulfilling his father's dream, he was kept under watch and could no longer visit his sister. He missed Kayla, but had to focus on his mission. At the Purifiers' base in D.C., an intruder had been caught during an attack. At Jake's request the mutant female, was brought to him. He was shocked to discover that the attacker was his own sister. Jake wanted to be left alone with her, so he asked her captures to leave, which they did.

The siblings hugged, making up for the time that had been lost. Kayla informed Jake of her purpose, to kill their father. William had murdered her mother and tried to kill her to. At first Jake denied her claims, but deep down knew what his father was capable of. As the two were talking, Stryker walked in on them. He slowly moved towards his children with a smile on his face and evil intentions in his mind. William quickly put his daughter in a chokehold, seeing that she was wearing an inhibitor collar, nullifying whatever powers she had.

He took out a knife and tossed it on the floor near Jake's feet, demanding he prove himself and kill her. Jake angrily refused his father's request and only stared back at him coldly. William then drew his pistol and placed it against the struggling Kayla's temple. As Stryker readied to pull the trigger, Jake kicked the knife in the air and hurled it at his father. The knife plunged deep into his arm, forcing him to release his grip from Kayla, who proceeded to knock him out.

With the same knife in hand, Kayla readied herself to kill her father. Jake grabbed her arm, stopping her in her tracks. Just then, more Purifiers stormed the room giving Jake just enough time to allow Kayla to escape. They saw their leader on the ground surrounded by blood and didn't hesitate to fire on their priest. As Jake ducked to avoid the gunfire, he felt himself dodge with an agility he had never achieved before. Every bullet soared past Jake's body, not hitting him at all. Soon the guns of every Purifier malfunctioned simultaneously. It was quiet as everyone had his or her eyes on Jake who had a shocked expression on his face.

William had gotten up after witnessing the inhuman acts of his son, to which he whispered, "Mutant." As Jake was standing from all the dodging, Stryker fired a shot into the back of his son's head. William ordered that the body be burned and as a Purifier moved to initiate the request, he claimed that the man was still alive. Stryker stopped and turned to look at him, Jake's eyes were moving behind closed eyelids.

Stryker assumed it was an act of God that had bestowed the extraordinary abilities to his son at that particular moment. He was intended to survive to accomplish his mission in life. However to ensure that Jake would be compliant, he had his mind wiped, leaving him a blank slate for Stryker to graft his own personality onto. After retraining Jake and seeing the potential of his powers, William felt his son was now ready to hunt down the mutants. Stryker branded his son's chest with a cross, now calling him Prophet. William's creation was released upon the world to enforce the will of God.

As Prophet, Stryker was seen as the leader of the Purifier forces, though he preferred to work alone. He single-handedly started a war on mutantkind, provoked by the assassinations of Charles Xavier and Magneto. Prophet welcomed other mutants to rise up against the Purifiers as they would be struck down by him personally. William took advantage of his son's brutality by seeking out mutant resistance forces such as the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants. He located their base of operations and sent his Purifiers to destroy them. No groups came out of the massacre intact. Mutants and Purifiers alike had heavy casualties, though the mutants had lost several prominent leaders in the process.

It seemed as if mutantkind no longer had any major defenses until the reappearance of Kayla, now called Firestar, who lead the Brotherhood on an assault of the Purifiers' HQ. William ordered Jake to eliminate Bishop before she could commence her invasion. Prophet obliged without hesitation.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Probability Manipulation: Jake was revealed to be a mutant with the ability to subliminally and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in his favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things to occur within his line of sight, thus causing him to have "good luck" and his opponents to have "bad luck." This phenomenon can be anything from an enemy's equipment failure to hitting just the right switch with a stray shot to shut down an overloading nuclear reactor. The full extent of his powers is still unknown. This unconsciously controlled talent is triggered when he is in a stressful situation (such as fighting or escaping). This effect constantly emanates from his body at all times and is completely subconscious. However, it is also largely participatory - in order for the luck to take effect, Jake himself must engage in an action whose chance he can affect. He cannot consciously control his ability; Jake can only activate it by putting himself in a position in which he could be harmed. He has yet to show some level of control over his powers. For example, if debris falling from the sky was about to hit him in the head, he would still be hurt if he stood still. However, if he tried to avoid them, he would move perfectly to avoid each piece about to hit him. In addition, if Jake were to stand before a hail of bullets he would be a bullet-ridden corpse. Instead, he must take action; in attempting to avoid the gunfire, he will miraculously bob and weave just right to avoid every single shot. As a byproduct of his probability abilities, Jake's cerebral cortex emits a current of bioelectric pulses down his spine to instinctively guide his movements during such situations, which has the added effect of augmenting his natural reflexes and agility to near-superhuman levels.
