History

Thing is, at the end of the day... I just gotta be me Spider. I may be good at hopping around and kicking creeps in the face, but I'm not good like you're good. No one is.
Black Cat

Early Life

Felicia Sara Hardy was born in Queens to world-renowned cat burglar Walter Hardy and Lydia Hardy. She was trained by her father to to become a great athlete and potentially a highly-skilled thief, as a means of becoming fearlessly independent and fiercely intimidating when necessary. He always encouraged Felicia to never settle for second best but always be the first: If she loved basketball, she should work hard to become a basketball player and not just a cheerleader instead as Felicia wanted to do the former more. At a young age, she witnessed her father being gunned down in front of her by hitmen sent by the Maggia.

Becoming the Black Cat

In the wake of her father's death, Felicia decided to utilize her new skills to follow in his footsteps. After having been arrested, Felicia was freed from prison by the Black Fox, her father's mentor, who took her as his new pupil. After years of training, she came back to New York with the goal of killing Wilson Fisk, the man she identified as the instigator of her father's murder. Felicia though, was impulsive and went head on into Fisk's office with the intent of killing him. Unfortunately, Fisk expected her and she was knocked out and abducted by his men. Fisk began experimenting on her with a variant of the super-soldier serum, with the intent of having her be a super-powered thief at the service of Fisk. The experiment though, seemingly failed, and Fisk ordered his men to leave in her the streets. When Felicia woke up, she was in an alley surrounded by cats and as she was returning back home, she noticed that everyone around her seemed to have bad luck. This prompted her to adopt the costume identity of the Black Cat and started robbing Manhattan's more prominent office buildings. Felicia later also joined the New York branch of the Thieves Guild, the global secret society that her father was also a part of.

Meeting Spider-Man

One night she broke into Fisk's estate to steal a statue and met the vigilante and hero Spider-Man for the first time and they battled. However, despite Spider-Man's slightly greater agility, Felicia's bad luck powers gave her the edge and she was able to escape. They met again during Felicia's next heist, but, after exchanging a few words and blows, they got romantically involved. The next day, reflecting on the fact that he had revealed his identity to her and that he was supposed to turn her in, not sleep with her, Peter swang away telling Felicia to return everything she had stolen. At the same time though, Felicia felt Spider-Man was the first man she could trust, and she grew to love him, so she looked for a way to earn his trust and joined him in his fight against crime. Together with the help of Daredevil they managed, in the end, to take down Fisk's criminal empire, with Felicia nearly killing the man that took her father away from her, only to be stopped by Spider-Man. Felicia's stint as a hero though, didn't last long, as she got the itch to steal again from the crooks she and Spider-Man took down. Peter found out about it and their relationship ended. She eventually left New York altogether.

  • Superhuman Reflexes
  • Superhuman Durability
  • Superhuman Stamina
