- Well, that's just bad luck for you, I guess!
- -- Felicia Hardy
- -- Felicia Hardy
Felicia Hardy was born around the mid-1980s to a wealthy family and was trained by her father, a secret world renowned cat burglar to become a great athlete and later, a highly-skilled thief. Before he was eventually arrested by the authorities, her father, Walter, encouraged her to never settle for second best but to always be the first. If she loved basketball, she should work to become a basketball player and not just a cheerleader instead. At some point in her early teenage years, her father Walter was unexpectedly arrested for his past crimes secretly working for Wilson Fisk and his rising criminal empire across New York, much to her despair for unintentionally having her father be put in great danger.
Felicia also trained herself to become highly skilled and an expert of martial arts and acrobatics, something that she usually does as a daily hobby. Unfortunately, when her father was killed by the mob in his prison cell, who was also hired by the Kingpin who was temporarily working with the Maggia Crime Family, who was holding a grudge against Hardy, she decided to follow in his footsteps and use her talents and abilities to become her father's former alias, the Black Cat in secret when she needs to, for her own ambitious and devious benefits.
At some point in time, the enraged Black Cat tries to assassinate the Kingpin in his office, as an act of vengeance for her father's murder. Sadly, the latter still fails, and she was knocked out by his men and was abducted against her will after letting her becoming a candidate to his clandestine experiment program involving a process using the recreated version of the super-soldier formula. For the next forty-eight hours, Felicia was unethically experimented by Kingpin's scientist team, with most of its crew not even caring that it could fail at any moment.
The experiment seemingly failed, and in response to this, Fisk carelessly ordered his men to take her unconscious body out of the laboratory to somewhere else. Afterwards, Felicia unknowingly wakes up in the back of an alleyway, with her slowly finding out about her newly-gained superpowers of causing bad luck to others around her. Thinking that this ability of hers would help her get back up into her life and would also help her more on her revenge plot against Kingpin, she continues to become her Black Cat persona as she ages into college and early adulthood, where she starts to experience a little difficulty in maintaining her normal life with her life as an infamous thief.
During her college years in Empire State University, Felicia studied and graduated at Empire State University during her senior high school and the entirety of her college days as an unspecified Arts major, where she met and befriended several people including Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, Harry Osborn, and Kenneth "Kong" MacFarlane, and her future ex-boyfriend, Flash Thompson, who actually became her closest friends for a long-time even after college.
During her freshman year in college, she had gone to a party and was nearly raped by a drunken student in a bathroom, when she was saved by another student, named Ryan. Felicia and Ryan became close friends, spending most of their time together until one night during their post-freshmen party, Ryan demanded that it was time for their relationship to become physical, something that Felicia wasn't even prepared or was immediately aware for.
Ryan attempted to rape Felicia out of desperation but Felicia protests and accidentally made it hit Ryan's head on a wall, leaving him unconscious for while. Felicia had the time to leave the room and the party running, but while she was running outside she unintentionally ran into Peter, Harry, Gwen, and Mary Jane. Felicia was so frightened she asked for their help to hide since Ryan tried to rape her. Ryan manages to follow Felicia's tracks outside and finds her behind the three of them. He tries to talk to Felicia out and lie to her but Peter intervened and defended her, immediately pissing Ryan off. Ryan tries to start a fight with Peter by throwing a single punch on him but Peter immediately catches his fist and punches Ryan so hard in the face without even breaking a sweat, it causes him to instantly have a black eye, much to Felicia and the others' surprise.
Peter and the rest tells Ryan to never hurt Felicia ever again and leave her alone, making Ryan leave them furiously while in pain after Peter easily punched him. Afterwards, Felicia owed her gratitude to Peter for defending her from Ryan, and the four had been close to each other as friends ever since, helping each other at all times whenever they had problems to deal with. Unbeknownst to Peter and the rest of her friends, Felicia slowly developed romantic feelings and started to fall in love with Peter since she had gotten very close with him during the day he saved her from Ryan, even to the point where she decided to break up with Flash Thompson, her boyfriend at the time, after realizing the growing affection she had for Peter.
Because of it, Felicia felt like she was having the brightest day of her life when she was about to confess her longing and lingering feelings for Peter. Felicia tried to tell Peter how she felt at first but she thought it would be disrespect for everyone, especially the time they faced the tragedy that is the death of Gwen Stacy, who was also Peter's old flame. Because of it, she decided to hide what she felt for a while, waiting for the right time to tell him all. Sadly, as first true loves go, they don't usually work out, as the same thing happens to Felicia that same day. Seeing how much happy Peter was with Mary Jane almost a year later since Gwen died, she eventually but painfully had to accept the fact that she might never be with the man she never realized she had always been dreaming of, and the fact that he would never know since she never told him to begin with. With it, she tearfully disappeared after their graduation day, leaving her friends behind at the university with not much trace whatsoever of her next whereabouts. With the request of one of her close friends, she requested her to tell Peter and the rest that she simply went away, somewhere, to "pursue her career".
In a night of her burglary at an antique museum somewhere in New York, she encountered the vigilante and hero Spider-Man. She would felt as if she could trust him and changed sides so he could trust her too. Even teaming up with Spider-Man made her realized to stop her career as a cat–burglar and convinces her to stop her undying vengeance against the Kingpin, telling her that becoming like who she was then was not something that would made her father proud and happy growing up. Later, she would eventually became a vigilante, working alongside the web-slinger, and a private investigator at an organization she founded, called Cat's Eye Investigations. The two would also develop a lingering relationship where Black Cat and Spider-Man both mutually loved one another. After they broke up, they remain as lovers from time to time, and even after knowing each other's identities they occasionally team-up in crime-fighting.
Reunion with Peter Parker
While the Black Cat might have frequently been spending her time more on crime-fighting with the web-slinger, Felicia's relationship with one of her long-time closest friends in college, Peter Parker has always remained silent and lifeless, since she and the rest of her friends never have gotten the chance to hang our or even talk to one another, ever since they've separately graduated in their last days at college.
That is, until Felicia got the very chance and decided to move into the borough of Manhattan, New York City, so she could move on from her childhood home, which unexpectedly had given her long-term depression ever since she started feeling lonely after their graduation, where she and everyone whom she loved, from her closest friends to her remaining family, became separated with her. Finding an apartment in the most populated areas of the city, she was surprised and was full of joy after she was kindly accepted by the person whom she was trying to contact for apartment sharing, since that was the only thing she could have ever afford to rent. Unbeknownst to Felicia, the very person who accepted her, was revealed to be in fact, Peter Parker, one of her closest friends back in senior high and college and her old one-sided love, who was also unknowingly Spider-Man in secret.
During the day Felicia was supposed to moved in with her new roommate, she was started feeling nervous, whether her first impressions would just annoy or irritate her new roommate. Nonetheless, she stopped overthinking and toughens herself out with enough self-esteem and confidence, before she presses the doorbell outside her new room. As her roommate opens the door, both of them were so surprised to see each other again, despite the fact that they were already supposed to expect that that they would be meeting, too surprised that they both froze in awkwardness, before Felicia decided to break the ice first by casually greeting Peter.
At first, the two started to have a little bit difficulty and struggle into reconciling with one another as they rekindle and restart their friendship for a very long time, but thankfully, as time goes, they managed to catch up with their lives as adults, as they started feeling like they were closer than ever before. In fact, they never knew that sparks were starting to light up as they get closer, they started falling in love, not only as Black Cat and Spider-Man, but also as Felicia and Peter by the time they knew each other's secret identities later on.
During the Chitauri Invasion led by Loki, Peter, who was also known as Spider-Man by Felicia (after she eventually knew, that he was Peter after all those times), and Felicia fought alongside the other members of the outlaw organization known as the Defenders to help the Avengers and were both offered to join the team, they were flattered but didn't accept the offer, although Peter eventually joined the Avengers after he left the team after realizing that the Defenders would be alright, in fact they would be better even without him, even though the team itself would disagree since Spider-Man was a well-loved member of the team.
In her time as a Defender, she eventually but briefly fell in love with her fellow teammate and leader, Daredevil but later broke up after the events of Ultimate War, after the tragic death of his ex-fiancée, Karen Page at the hands of Bullseye. She became the substitute leader of the group during their several missions whenever Daredevil is absent or is critically injured for whatever reason, and the reason for that is because she is one of the most-trusted and one of the most tactical long-time member of the team, as they clash with the likes of the most menacing and dangerous criminals of New York, from Kingpin's Empire and the Maggia Crime Family, to the more cosmic extraterrestrial threats such as the Chitauri and the shapeshifting Skrulls.
Throughout the entire journeys of the Defenders, the heroic team has never face a stronger and a more villainous organization in the world (besides the Kingpin's entire Criminal Empire) than the powerful palm of the fingers of the Hand, upon their devastating re-emergence, as the five fingers had rise up throughout New York City, in order to tried to catch the Iron Fist so he would open the gates for the substance, the Hand's long-time elixir of immortality.
Due to this, the Defenders were reformed in order to save Iron Fist and stop the Hand from destroying the city in the process. As the Hand reached for the substance deep underground, trying to collect all of the remaining samples have only to lead them to their doom, when the Defenders buried the rest of the leaders under the ground. The fingers might have been defeated by the heroes for now, but later on, the Hand's survival would be proven, as the organization itself continues to thrive and survive, even without their strongest leaders, who would still return, later on.
Threat of Thanos
When the cosmic surfer Norrin Radd came to Earth all the way from Asgard to warn Rogers and the heroes of Earth through telling Doctor Strange that the warlord Mad Titan, Thanos, and his Black Order would attack Earth seeking the final Infinity Stone, the Black Cat and the Defenders reforms in public as an act of protecting Vision. Felicia herself selflessly participated in the Battle of Wakanda, despite Peter's concerning advice for her to just stay in the city of New York with the rest of the Defenders in protecting the panicking civilians, and alongside the Avengers and Wakanda armies as well as the reformed forces of the Ultimates held off the onslaught of Outriders and a large portion of the Chitauri sent down by Thanos under his command.
Thanos would later arrive in the kingdom of Wakanda, and the joint alliance of Earth's mightiest heroes and most dangerous villains did their best to keep him away from Vision. However, Thanos' power was proven to be unmatched, even to all of Earth's mightiest defenders, removes the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead, apparently killing the android and shutting down his entire system in the process. Thanos had ultimately triumphed over his enemies once he completed the Infinity Gauntlet, using this to finally complete his goal and destroy half of the life within the universe at the snap of his fingers, something that heavily devastated Hardy and her allies for losing a lot of their loved ones due to the heroes' ultimate defeat and failure, especially during the unexpected moment she saw Peter faded out of existence with her very own eyes in front of him, which immediately led her to break down in tears as her surviving teammates try to comfort her for losing Peter.
However, the alliance of the surviving heroes, antiheroes, and several redeemed villains still persevered, thanks to the overall introduction of Adam Warlock as the final resort and hope for restoring everything back to normal, being aided by the Cosmic Entities, and continues their final battle against Thanos within his Sanctuary. In the process, he overlooked his adoptive daughter Nebula who was able to wrest the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos' hand. Her first act was to undo all that has occurred, which inadvertently freed the heroes and the cosmic entities and resurrected most of those who have once withered away into ash by the Titan's snap of changing reality, including Peter Parker himself in the process, which greatly relieved Felicia. The battle resumed with Nebula's raging hatred towards Thanos in her attempt to kill him for good, and in the end it was Adam Warlock who finally possessed the Gauntlet, ending the cosmic conflict for the Infinity Gauntlet, for now.
Final Commitment with Peter Parker
Felicia would manage to easily move on later from her break up with Daredevil, believing that they were better off as friends and as her fellow mentor, and finally starts to have feelings for Peter once again, but haven't felt the same way about Felicia the way she felt about him. Peter eventually then realizes his feelings for Felicia and eventually decided to get back together to her, and since then, the two finally started dating once again. He later would decide to propose to her much later on two weeks after their reconciliation as lovers during the start of the Heroic Age, specifically days since the aftermath of Infinity War, and as an answer to his proposal, Felicia happily agrees to marry him because she just realized that she already loved him from the very beginning, not just as Spider-Man, but also as Peter Parker as well whom she had feelings for since when they were back in college, when he first saved her life, when they first met.
Envious of the Past
On the day Peter made a reservation at Blue Hills Restaurant for him and Felicia's special date later that night as a recently-engaged couple, things almost went downhill and troublesome for their reignited relationship. Earlier that afternoon while Peter and Felicia were having an anniversary reunion with their college friends at Coffee A Go-Go, one of their oldest friends who were not a couple, Kenneth "Kong" MacFarlane and Gloria Grant, comically and topically mentioned when Peter and Mary Jane were still a couple back during their college days, recalling the current couple on how Peter was so romantic and so sweet to MJ, to which Felicia starts to feel awkward and uncomfortable, much to Peter's guilt for letting Felicia hear that.
Along with it, Kong and Gloria also recalled Felicia and Flash's relationship, and how they spent their times together both physically and romantically, which now makes Peter felt even more uncomfortable than Felicia in the already-awkward situation. Because of this, Felicia felt guilty just as well, seeing Peter's response to which he urgently leaves the cafe, excusing his reason that something suddenly came up with his work on the Daily Bugle. Knowing what Peter was actually feeling, Felicia followed Peter outside, apologizing to him about their friends behavior, albeit she only makes the situation much worse unintentionally, after honestly pointing out that she felt envious with his past romance with Mary Jane. As a result, the two ended up arguing about their past, calling him and MJ as the perfect couple he could never forget, creating another rough patch in the start of their already reformed relationship.
Immediately realizing what she just said to Peter out of anger, she could only react in shock and guilt. Peter apologizes and tries to comfort Felicia, only for the latter to stop him, telling him that she needs space in the meantime, returning back to her apartment. Peter tries to follow Felicia further to try and resolve things with her, though he had to investigate a distress signal coming from the NYPD, reporting that there was an ongoing attack within attack inside a warehouse. Back to her apartment, Felicia emotionally breaks down in tears, thinking about what she's going to do next to fix their situation, fearing that their complicated history would definitely repeat itself.
In the next few hours, Felicia fell asleep in her room as she tries forgetting their rough patch, little knowing that her fiance's was missing since the last time she last saw him. After waking up, a confused Felicia receives several text messages on her phone from Peter, saying that they'll still be meeting at their reservation that night. After knowing that Peter still remembers about their date, she started tearing once more for being so stubborn and inconsiderate to him. Afterwards, Felicia suits up the dress Peter had once gave her as a gift on her birthday before proceeding to the Blue Hills Restaurant to meet with him. Upon her arrival at the restaurant, she waited for almost an hour, expecting for him to come at any moment. Sadly enough, Felicia began to worry about what might have happened to Peter, rather than thinking of the possibility that he stood her up.
Because of her worries, Felicia left the restaurant in an instant, and on her way to back to the apartment to suit up her Black Cat suit to find Peter, she happens to walk pass an appliance store, in which she sees through televisions of the windows display several news reports regarding the incident that occurred earlier that afternoon involving Spider-Man fighting a mysterious individual. Staring at the televisions, Felicia's heartbroken reaction unexpectedly started igniting her powers, without even realizing that everything around her starts go off rails. Not Felicia would have noticed this, right until she witnessed that a child was almost hit by a car, caused by her bad luck powers. Thankfully, the child was saved by none other than Peter himself, who was wearing his formal suit. Seeing Peter from the distance, Felicia could only break down in tears of joy and swiftly run towards him, embracing him passionately, much to Peter's surprise before hysterically apologizing to her for being late.
Felicia worryingly asked him where he went, to which Peter sarcastically answers her that he had to run an errand. Peter then apologizes to Felicia once more if his past with MJ seems to bother her all those times when he didn't even notice, realizing that he stills gets to choose his destiny, with him finally promising her that he has and would always love her with all his life and no one else, no matter what would happen to the two of them. The couple then passionately kiss, and walks back to the restaurant to resume their date, happily holding hands.
Save the Date
At some point during the later days of the great but short-lived Heroic Age, the heroic couple have finally gotten happily married at the Saint Patrick's Cathedral, wherein their wedding was attended by most of their long-time loved ones, greatest of allies, and even former & recurring enemies. Shortly after the wedding ceremony, the two were inside their wedding car, with them supposed to be on their way to their supposed next location, only to be unexpectedly interrupted by a heavy traffic around Manhattan when they witnessed a heist in a bank that was about to begin and be executed by secret agents of the infamous Maggia Crime Family, led by a disguised Hammerhead. Already feeling a little bit of disappointment that their lovely night and their subsequent honeymoon was gonna have to be delayed for a short moment, as Peter and Felicia nonetheless put on their iconic heroic suits immediately and swiftly left the wedding car in secret in the meantime to intervene the upcoming heist and apprehend the treacherous members of the Maggia, happily knowing and realizing that they're finally together as loving and committed soulmates.
Powers and Abilities
Mutation (Mutate): The Black Cat is a mutate, meaning she was genetically mutated in order to attain her superhuman abilities. She got her permanent superhuman powers from exposure to a super-soldier formula that she once stole from the Kingpin's scientists. Her super strength rivals or even outmatches Moon Knight's strength, (whose strength alone can support the weight of a collapsing jet bridge) once she has been highly empowered.
- Tychokinesis: The Black Cat is imbued with a genuine ability to cause "bad luck" by scientists working for the Kingpin through a bargain her father unwillingly made with him, since when she was still a young infant. This power allowed her to subliminally affect probability fields, which would cause improbable, though not impossible, events of "bad luck" to occur to enemies within her line of sight.
