Fabien Cortez was an only child in an English family. He was well-loved by his parents, and was spoiled beyond his wildest dreams. He was always a radical child, and he always wished that he was a mutant. But as he grew up, he pushed such dreams aside, and went to a pilot school. He graduated with full honors, and became one of the world's best pilots. One day, however, his powers activated in midair, and he accidentally killed his copilot when he tried to heal him and failed. He crash-landed the plane and faked his own death. He began hiding in the wilderness of England, but luckily, his mutant signature was picked up by the machine Cerebro.
Magneto journeyed to England to find the seemingly deceased Cortez. After an extensive search, he found him in the swamps of Ireland. He told him that he was a mutant with vast power enhancing and mimicking powers. Cortez argued, telling him he wasn't a mutant, but if he was, he had force field powers. Magneto insisted he could have both, and he told him that he was a teacher of mutants, and he needed his help. He said that his X-Men had been captured, and he needed Fabien's help in finding them. If he helped, he would try to cover up the accidental murder of his co-pilot and try to welcome him back into the world. Fabien accepted, and after rescuing the mutants or Krakoa, Cortez became a devoted X-Man under the alias "Amp."

Power Amplification: Amp has the ability to amplify the powers of other mutants, sometimes to dangerous levels.
Biokinesis: Amp can manipulate others mutants' bodies while seemingly healing them.
Force Fields: Amp can manipulate the field of his power to choke other mutants.
Power Synching: Amp can copy the powers of 2 other beings in his vicinity at a time (3 if he exerts himself).
Abilities
Amp is a skilled pilot, and can fly nearly any aircraft. He's also well-versed in powered and depowered combat.
